Is going to a better school worth hour long travel times?

Hi everyone,

I've been short-listing a number of potential schools for my DD for sec1 and some of the better considerations that we've come across are at least an hour's journey door to door.

We do have some nearby options which will be included in the 6 choices but are weighing if we should expand our choices to better schools that may be further away

Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions, thanks!

Yes, I am also hesitating if I should let my DS travel 1 hr or just go to a nearby school . I am afraid that she will be too tired when she comes back especially on days where she has CCA .

From personal experience, it was not worth it. Too tiring! Not unless parents can fetch one way or there is an express bus which can cut short the journey.

Traffic condition now is really very bad. Not worth. Very tiring. Time and health are precious.

Thanks so much for the input so far!

Currently, the bus journey to her primary school already takes an hour and was thinking maybe it might not be so bad.

However, am very aware that secondary school is a completely different ballgame and would be good to get insight on what the reality is like on the ground for secondary students these days

:gloomy:
Mine is slightly below 1hour, one way. About 50min.
Besides duration of journey, some considerations will be,
1. Need any bus transfer
2. How many buses can take to the school

Luckily for our choice, though need one bus transfer, we have the option of two bus numbers for the first stop and up to 3 bus numbers to the school.

No worries lah. I will not consider yours far at all. Don't forget MRT station will be available there in 2016 :boogie:.

On the upside, it's an MRT ride away with about a 10min walk but yeah, factor in CCA twice a week and homework, could be a pretty tiring stuff

I think depends on which 'better' school you're referring to

If referring to those 4 schools, i think even if they were to shift to pulau ubin, there will still be over subscription
:siam:

Okay jokes aside, i would rather not spend too much time travelling if i have a choice
