Going to affiliate secondary school

I understand that a student who does not put the affiliate sec sch as first choice will not enjoy any affiliation priority in the S1 posting exercise.
Anyone care to share your considerations on selecting or not-selecting your child's affiliate sec sch as first choice?
What will be your considerations if the Tscore obtained by your dc is higher than the COP of the affiliate sec sch but just met the COP of your dc's dream sch? Would you take the chances?

Thought they will give you another form if you qualify for better schools? Not anymore?
During my time, I was given another form cos I did better than expected like 26x to get into SAP, so I dropped my affiliate...

Well if you're very certain that your child's t-score is comfortably higher than the COP for the affiliated school, then go ahead and take a XXXXX. Worst case scenario is if there's a sudden massive improvement in COP of the affiliated school this year over previous years and you're caught out.

Some schools take in like almost 100% from their affiliated primary schools and so only a handful of slots are opened to others during S1...so past year COP is not very reliable.

That's the risk you'll have to take. That's why must be comfortably over the affiliated COP.

Schools like Fairfield and St. Andrews take in their students...not many vacancies left for outsiders. to transfer to Fairfield secondary at the end of sec 1, need to have minimum 70 for English.

When you look at the "affiliated COP", just be sure that you are looking at the COP for non-affiliated students, not the one for affiliated students. If your daughter has not put the school as first choice, she will be counted as non-affiliated. Eg. affiliated students might be able to get in with a COP of 220, say, but the COP for non-affiliated students might be 25+.

For Sec Schs which offer both IP & O Level tracks, applicants need to put the two courses as 1st and 2nd choices, to be eligible for affiliation priority..
For example.. Must choose, as follows :
1st Choice - CHS IP
2nd Choice - CHS O Level

Cannot choose, as follows :
1st Choice - CHS IP
2nd Choice - SJI IP
3rd Choice - CHS O Level
4th Choice - SJI O Level

Oh... I didn't know that. I thought that as long as the first choice is the affiliated secondary school will do. Does this apply for all dual track schools with affiliated primary schools?
