Choped,

I'm sorry yr DC didn't get his choice offer. Heave a sigh & help your child overcome this. There's work to do towards PSLE. Still places available.

S'times for some kids this part of learning journey may be tough but a time to reflect & he might work even harder to snag that place with his own academic effort!

3 years back my child was faced with a setback & he learnt what it means to work hard. Today, he u'stand awards & places don't come easy & s'times hard work is up against competition fr many who may be more deserving. Last few years I helped him pick himself up. This PSLE year I let him do his own driving. He's still doing his CCA with the younger P5s, though most P6s alr stepped down.

This is the moment they need you most! Take care & be strong. No complete loss as PSLE still lots of places & his score might snag him an IP place! Think positive!

Thank you!!!! We're so happy for our DS who is overjoyed!!
Thank you Snsn, for yr pm. We share joys & surely cannot forget those who hv to face disappointments. Wished the later days can hear better news for those getting WL convert to CO.

So, yr DS overjoyed & in cloud nine? Encourage him to continue in his good work! I'm sure this puts his engine on higher gear? Hee, hee... :celebrate:

Sorry DD! Not DS! See how excited I am!
Yeah we reminded and congratulated her for their efforts but told her that she cannot just slack off for the actual PSLE!

Chope,
It's a disappointment but children are resilient! Let's be positive for them as they will take their cue from us too! All the best to your DS.

I too tend to ne of the impression that the Raffles cohort is stronger. Even the Year 1 intake, RGS does not take in affiliated girls and RI's COP has been higher than HCI's. I have not been following the COP for rhe JAE intake. So I guess the distant 2nd in A level results does not surprise me.

Not sure about past years, but for 2017 DSA, HCI has imposed a very high standard for Maths & Science domains. Must be gold or platinum winners at Olympiads in order to be even shortlisted for HDP. Thus, there will have many top-calibre Maths/Science students to spur their schoolmates. Additionally, HCI has traditionally been known to strongly promote Chinese culture, language and values, which (in the current China era) is a big plus point. So I guess (just a guess) HCI has an edge over RI in terms of DSA acceptance.
For P6s, it is natural that many parents focus on comparing the Y1-Y4 programs. I feel it is equally important to look at Year 5-6 program leading up to the A level exams. For IP students who are not taking O levels, the A levels (or IB) results will be be used for university admission. Heard from an insider source that in terms of A level results, HCI is distant second behind RI (in past years). A level results is of course only one aspect, but it reflects the strength of the Y5-6 program & quality of teaching. The schools released press releases on their A level results on their websites so that is another point for research.

There's still the PSLE route, so press on and enter RI via merit. All the best.
