Thank you for all the replies mummies and daddies, looks like there is no "pattern" to how NUS High selects the children for interview 😔😅 But looks like those who DID get interviewed are GEP students, would be interesting to see if there are any non-GEP students who did get selected for interview. Please sound out if you are in this category, will be helpful for those non-GEP students still waiting to see if they still have a chance 😅

Thank you to those who sent your well wishes, I hope your child does well too and get into the school they want! 🤗

Statistically, NUSH cohort comes from about 78-80 primary schools which means majority kids are not GEPPERs.
But most importantly, not only must the child be extremely passionate about STEAM but they must be able to cope with the accelerated curriculum.
Hence, I think its not a matter of geppers versus non geppers. More likely is how your child fare among the cohort this year to catch the eye of the sch for an interview. BTW, not all GEPPERS can cope in NUSH too and they know.

Take note also, historically, NUSH receives about more than 3000++ applicants and will only shortlist max 400 and then only 170-180 selected. Since this year there are many more applicants, the competition in this pool is tougher.

By the way, I know of non geppers getting interview this DSA 2021.

FYI, im am sure its a misconception about NUSH being a " GEPPERS-only" school because my DD is non gepper studying in NUSH without much of those olympiads and so no Gep awards etc etc. However, she had to go through 2 TOUGH testing rounds (round 1 and round 2) to get into NUSH. Hence I feel 2020 and 2021 DSA is way much easier since u don't get to sit for a test and then work and present in the selection camp.

GOOD LUCK.

Lastly pls check nush website coz I remember for SIE you may need to apply on 1st Nov to indicate your interest to apply SIE with psle results and not right after results release.

Thank you for the additional info on the primary schools. I had never seen it for NUSH (or didn't recall). It is pretty diverse for a cohort ~1/2 the size of some other schools.

I do agree on the non-GEP kids; every year there seems to be plenty that make it through. The whole process last year and this year has been a bit different though. The selection process itself is easier/less time demanding, but the rub is that you've got to make it through the screening process from what you upload to the MOE portal to get a shot at the interview.

Will be interesting to see what the process is like next year. My sense from reading the tea leaves was that they wanted to run a selection test but COVID did not allow them to do so (although this is just a guess). After two years maybe they are satisfied with the way it is working now and will just stick with it (or still run the camp but only for those who are shortlisted as part of an additional screen/observation point).

Thanks again and regards.

Thank you for your reply. I was getting a bit disheartened thinking that only GEP get called for interview. Thanks for sorting that out and yes, I wasn't thinking of the big picture that they are getting in students from all over. Yup, I have looked at the SIE as a backup plan, see how things are like in November. Thanks for your well wishes and hope your girl is doing well in NUS high!

Hi all,
Any news on the SPSO?
Nope, still waiting. I see on the NMOS website that their results will be out 6 August. NMOS was held a day later than SPSO, so I'm wondering whether SPSO would also be out this week.

One thing is correctly mentioned by you that there is no pattern. My DS and his classmate got NUSH interview calls . My DS is non-GEP but has Gold & platinum MO medals and also always AL1 in maths and science , but his classmate is again non-GEP and has no MO or SO medals, but always AL1 in maths and science.
