For SST.
My daughter's languages are not strong. Hovering between 3 and 4, even got 5 before. Very unstable and hence my wife and I are quite worried actually. Any unforeseen thing and may drop to 5 or below. Scary sia... that's the bad thing about AL. Originally we also thought that this new system is good for her as she does not need to squeeze the last mark. But turns out can be double edged.
Anyway back to SST, the irony is that from what I learned, sec 1 focus not much on Chinese.... we are also worried that with her such standard and lack of interest, how can she eventually handle O level Chinese.... guess my wife got to continue to "drill" her with Chinese every weekend as what she has been doing in past 2 years. (My daughter refused to go tuition. Between tuition and mum, she chose the latter. But still let mum angry with non cooperation and vomit a lot of blood with her forever-cannot-remember Chinese characters)
My daughter very "geng" one. Already eyeing on the SST-Ngee Ann Integrated Diploma. She said dun need O level! Hahaa....

Congrats to all parents whose child have gotten CO/WL ..

My son got CO from SJI (O Levels) and SST, hence now a decision to be made
So far he is quite indifferent
Wondering if any parents have any insights/thoughts regarding these two schools?
Co-ed vs all boys

newly established school vs school with very long history

I understand that SJI offers "O", IP and IB options whereas SST is generally meant for those aiming to go to Poly via "O" levels.

Dun think SST is for poly. As engineer myself, I fully support applied science. In fact I feel the issue of our normal science syllabus is lacking the connection to every day life. We learn but dunno why we learn. For exams score is the only reason bah. Applied science is more holistic.
My 2 cents.

SJI O-level curriculum typically follow MOE syllabus.

But of course if the son of AlternateShift at the end of Sec 2, is interested in Transfering across to IB track starting Sec 3, then it makes sense for him to join SJI, instead of SST.

Otherwise, if he wants to take Double Sciences plus One Applied Science, then join SST lah !

Who says that graduates of SST end up in Polytechnic ?

Nah !

So many of our SST graduates end up in

National Junior College

And

Eunoia Junior College,

although there are also those that go Polytechnic.

Of course there are also those that go to other non-IP JCs, as well. But predominantly, those who finished O level often like to to go to NJC and Eunoia.

==========================

Btw, emoh,

SST was founded in 2008.
Today is 2021.
How many batches (years) have gone past ?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_ ... _Singapore

Simple mathematics will show :-

2021 subtract 2008, equal "13" years have passed by !

So, how can you say that SST is "newly established school" ?

Where got "newly",
when so many O-level batches have already sat for National Exam ?

You know what's "newly" ?
"Newly" means just been established 1 or 2 years ago that type, then Yes, is considered under "newly".

========================
CovermyNeeds,

In case you are not aware -

50% of SST graduates end up in Polytechnic.

But,

Another 50% of SST graduates also end up in Junior Colleges.

And NOT
what your gut feel telling u that

100% of SST graduates end up in Polytechnic.

What is the beauty or advantage of studying in SST ?

Their entire SST curriculum is very much in tune and much alive with the happenings of the world. Unlike our kind of "dead", always follow standard MOE syllabus.

SST curriculum is robust & dynamic. Beauty is that it offers flexibility ! Those after O level, can have a choice to decide : continue with JC or to change course to Poly ?

However, I must say that some SST students inside, are weak in languages, esp. Chinese

Fully agree !

I really like SST curriculum a lot !

If I have a son and if he doesn't mind doing O-level, definitely advocate SST over rest of the typical O-level Secondary schools

Hi!

Can I check with the parents for those with CO via swimming, what kind of placing is you DC having for the past SNAG?

I am wondering if DC only has 1 or 2 events in top 3 placing, what is DC chance of getting accepted via DSA?

Thanks!
I don’t think you are able to qualify / quantify your chance.

It depends on:
1. The school that you are applying to - generally, the more popular the school, the more stringent the requirements (since they have a lot of candidates to pick from).
2. The event(s) that you are competing in. I think it’s better to highlight PB timing or what’s his consistent timing rather than top 3 placings since for some events, the (names of the) winners do change a lot.
Thank you for your reply!

I guess its more of the top 3 MVP instead of the top 3 placing for individual events who have more likely chances. Trying to see what's our chances are like. :) I guess its quite low too 😂

FYI, it was a staff at SST who shared that info with me. Certainly has got nothing to do with my gut.

I always thought that students who are strong or passionate in math and science but weak in language (s) will be more suited for SST, while those who are stronger and M+S+ languages will perhaps prefer NUSH.

Perhaps that is the reason why many SST students prefer the Poly route.
