Hi, anyone has experience or know based on last year students who got DSA CO, could we buy uniforms first before S1 posting result?
We just got the email today from NYGH for uniform and text book purchase from 1 Dec to 21 Dec. Book online in advance and reserve time slot to school for collection. Exchange also allowed after 21 Dec. Maybe you can check with your DSA school.

DS2 was accepted into his 1st choice secondary school via DSA (basketball). Following the footsteps of his brother (DS1) in 2019 also thru DSA (basketball). Sibling rivalry, DS2 refused to go to the same secondary school as DS1. I’m glad still that both schools are great schools both academically and in sports. And are basketball powerhouse.

If not for DSA and relying on their mediocre academic results alone, it would be impossible to get into their choice schools. For DSA route via sports, 1-1 coaching and strength conditioning sessions to have that extra edge is critical. During the year of DSA itself, both my boys went thru intensive 1-1 coaching to brush up their skills, speed, stamina and sighting. Glad that their effort paid off.

Let me know if anyone needs advice on DSA (basketball) for pre-covid (based on 2019) and covid year (based on 2021). 😅

Yes. For my kid higher Malay. Rare cos it’s somewhat useless, unlike higher Chinese with has a variety of school options. We tried to discourage her but she insisted. My girl was the only student taking higher Malay in her school hence her classes were one-on-one.

Before DSA process started, plan was DSA Malay to RGS but couldn’t fulfil the requirement. So we decided on comm youth leadership and visual arts.

We didn’t think of visual arts before that. Pulled her out of her external art classes in Jan cos her calendar got too clogged up. Submission of portfolio could have been better as the art centre would have given special guidance on the portfolio had she stayed on. We didn’t know that. For visual arts, ended up not even getting the interview 🤷🏽‍♂️

Agreed. For my dd dsa sports application many years ago, we also spent lots of money on extra coaching and training up to 6x a week 4h each in P6, on top of extra schwork given by sch in preparation for psle. There was once (CA1-intersch comps period) she became the last in class for maths (she's in top class)...that was also a wakeup call to try to balance both and not be lopsided. Lucky all ended well both in dsa app and psle results as she did not want to enter the sch without qualifying for cop (internal challenge).

With confirmed CO and the child received the letter on school confirmation can go ahead get sch uniform to avoid the rush at year end with the normal posting students. Tks
Thanks! That’s what I am thinking too but understand nowadays or some school don’t allow to go into school to buy uniform, all online?
For some schools, you will need an appointment if you want to buy uniforms or books directly from the school itself. You can order online, have it delivered at a cost, or make an appointment to collect at the school.

Just to be on the safe side.. Email them to ask, before u head down?

Hi, I just called the uniform supplier, was told open daily to sell in school.
Do you think could just go down and tell security to buy uniform

Better bring your PSLE letter indicating the school to show the security guard.

I think for sports, no choice but have to start early.

One of my kid is in P2, and is participating and practising for competitions, usually twice or thrice a week.Sadly, her P school doesn't have the CCA on offer, and most of the trainings are done outside of school. I think it's best not to think of it as preparing for DSA, but rather to support the kid in excelling in what he / she enjoys. I think in your case, it's a 皆大欢喜 ending.
