Hi to all parents whose kid is taking psle this year. I writing to share with you my experience of dsa 2020 with my DD and hipefully it can help you in one way or another in your kid journey.

My best wishes to all P6 in this year psle.
Great post.
 But I think you left out the most "juicy" part -- you hid the outcome from your child until she took the PSLE, but did you reveal to her n let her choose whether to accept the DSA offers? Or did she gain admission thru the T-score (i.e. declined the DSA offers)?

Hi, may I know if anyone knows the requirements for DSA MGS or River Valley using choir domain? Thanks in advance!
Hi,

For River Valley High, it is mentioned in its website that the selection criteria and process for the talent areas will be updated by early-June.

For MGS, I believe you have to apply under Music Elective Programme (MEP). The requirements are quite clear for those playing instruments so you may want to confirm the requirements with MGS for choir applicants.

All the best to your gal! :rahrah:

3. DSA Music Elective Programme
For academically able and musically inclined students offering Voice, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass or Piano. Those who have a passion for Music, and who wish to develop their creative talents to serve the music community in school and beyond are suitable for the programme.
DSA-MEP students will take Higher Music as a subject in Sec/Year 1 to 4 and offer it as a subject in the GCE O-Level Examination. They will also join one of the following Music Performing Arts CCA:
• Choir
• Guitar Ensemble
• Handbell Ensemble
• String Ensemble

Music Elective Programme (MEP)

All applicants will be assessed based on their primary school results and personal portfolios, submitted to the MOE DSA-Sec portal.
All applicants are also required to submit a video to the school for assessment.
Video submission to this link. Deadline: 17 June 2021
For applicants offering Voice, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, or Piano only. If you play 2 instruments, you can choose to perform 2 pieces on the main instrument, or 1 piece on each instrument.
Details:
• 2 contrasting pieces, with a total of 3 - 5 minutes. The pieces demonstrate the applicant’s best performance qualities in terms of musicianship and technical proficiency.
• You may choose to play with scores or without scores. Non-pianists may perform solo or with accompaniment.
• Clear video footage showing full view of performer.

Only shortlisted applicants will be notified. A Selection Test (via e-mode) will be conducted from 28 June to 9 July.
The Selection Test comprises:
• An Aural Test: imitate and complete a melody (applicant can choose to sing or play on an instrument) and a rhythm
• An Interview

Hi, Wondering is the O level in IP/dual track school better than normal secondary school?
Your word, "better", is for which subject?

1) for St Nick
OP Sec 1 subject "Maths", last year 2020 -

our Teachers pulled down some Sec 2 Maths topics from MOE syllabus, taught the class in advance. Other Secondary Catholic missionary schools' Sec 1 students not yet been taught, on these topics.
But our OP girls were already taught, first.

2) for Sec 2 OP subject "Science " -

St Nick observed & followed closely to what the IP Science topics have been covered & taught, in each Term.

Example

For this mid-year 2021 "Sec 2 " mid-year May month exam , which is starting tomorrow Thursday (6 May 2021), our O-level curriculum Science exam topics tested are 2 topics lesser (fewer), compared to our Year 2 IP Science exam topics. Apart from these two topics lesser, the rest of the remaining Science topics tested are the same, in both track. The exam topics tested may be identical, but the content questions tested may differ.

3) for subject "Higher Chinese" -
whether IP or OP track, our Sec 2 students take the same common exam HCL paper 2.

Example

Initially, our 2021 Sec 2 OP students supposed to test 4 HCL chapters, for this mid-year exam, same as what happened in previous Term 1 test.

But after hearing that Year 2 IP students are tested Total of 6 chapters, from dan yuan (4 and 7), from HCL textbooks 2A and 2B, after a meeting held by Chinese Teachers, decision changed ! Everyone, including OP students: now all follow IP track students, also tested Total 6 chapters, for mid-year exam. Not 1 chapter less. Not 4 chapters, anymore.

4) for subject Sec 2 "Geography", 2021 Year 2 IP students are tested more topics, than Sec 2 OP students

OP : O-level program curriculum

5) for subject Sec 2 Literature -

IP and OP used different Literature text. So exam content differ naturally.

===========================

Overall, IP track is the driver, because year-end this year, some of our OP students will cross over to the IP track, starting Y3 IP next year.

(I often talked about Sec 2, not other level, because of the year end streaming exercise held, to select next year Sec 3 subject combination. Sorry )
Thanks for advise. May i know where to find the list of dual track school?

Dear parents. I just looked thru the DSA portal. Pardon my ignorance need to check on some stuff if u could assist 🙏🏽
1. Non-school achievements: there is max 10 entries. So if apply for leadership, academic and art, the 10 entries are supposed to be summarised for all talents together?
2. Understand school achievement are auto-submitted. Academics furnished for p5&p6 but those edusave/ ECHa awards does school submit from p1?

Thanks in advance

I read this from the template that was provided:

“Non-school based awards/activities include participation in competitions organised by external organisations, or talent or skills achieved through external activities. Please fill in the relevant awards/activities that are related to the talent area(s) that you have selected.”

- my interpretation: yes, the 10 entries are shared among all the 1-3 talent areas you have selected.

“Your child’s primary school information will be automatically shared with the DSA-Sec school(s) that you applied to. This includes your child's such as P5 and P6 academic results, Co-curricular Activities (CCA), Values in Action (VIA) involvement, School-based achievements/awards such as Edusave Awards, NAPFA results, National School Games (NSG) and Junior Sports Academy (JSA) participation will be automatically shared with the DSA-Sec school(s) you applied to. You do not need to input these this information.”

- my interpretation: your Edusave awards from P1 are most likely auto-included, cos they specified “P5 and P6” for academic results only. The others in the list did not specify “P5 and P6”. So I assume the entire history from P1 would be auto-included for those.

“[Please duplicate this table if you have more than one non-school-based award/activity. This section is not compulsory and there is a limit of 10 entries.]”

A suggestion, do not pick and apply for 3 different domain, max 2. It’s extremely rare for a child to have 3 different talent of a high standard. DSA selectors look for quality, not quantity.

1. Yes for all.
2. My understanding is yes, as long as it’s awards given out by moe.

Suggestion: try to limit to 1 school/ domain. Now that dsa is centralized, pretty sure the schools can see all your “choices”.

If the Gepper is outstanding in Math or Science, which they usually are. They stand an equal chance with another student with outstanding achievements in the domain.

They used to have an edge and more or less bao jiak under the general academic domain. Thankfully (or unfortunately, depending on which side of the fence you are on), MOE has removed that. Hence, generally smart Geppers but without achievements in something will find it tough.
