House Renovation - designers or ala-carte?

With most families being dual-income-with-kids, outsourcing home cleaning and home economics to domestic helpers is almost a way of life for Singaporeans. Come in and discuss issues pertaining to maids and home management.

In the midst of meeting and discussing with various IDs. Think finding one who can get your ideas, can project manage well and have access to good contractors that have quality workmanship is a hit and miss thing also.

This is such a daunting project.

Aside from finding a suitable ID, I will have to look for temp accommodation for the duration of the reno which could take up to 4mths. Not to mention all the packing and storing that have to be done. I have half a mind to look for a new place instead of renovating our current.

Any good recommendation or suggestion for ID as well as for short term lease that can accommodate 4 persons and a dog?
All the best! I am just finishing up my reno.

My current ID is fast, but lacks attention to details. Had a lot of headaches just checking & re-checking his work and customized stuff had to be sent back & re-done several times. Still within timeline though.

U may wish to plan to start actual work after CNY. Many of the Malaysian workers will be going back in end-Jan cos theyve not visited family for 2-3 years already. There is also a general shortage of workers now due to work permit restrictions etc. Situation seems to be improving slowly.

I have a previous ID who is highly detailed, with a very aesthetic eye. Can trust him to manage whole project, dont need to helicopter over him unlike most IDs. But not guaranteed fast cos subject to availability of outsourced workers. PM if u want this type.

Hi Funz

For short term accom: https://expatcorporate.com/
You might want to call this lady, Leslie at HP : +65 8418 4755
I rented from her for more than a month last year as they were hit by Covid. They have a few areas in Singapore.
All the Best!

P.S. For ids/contractors, please share if you find any good ones as I will be renovating my new place in the very near future.

Yes, intend to start reno only after CNY. I had 2 rather good IDs before. 1 went into furniture design and no longer doing ID and the other went bust. I wouldn't mind the contact of your highly detailed ID. I hate having to micro manage things so if there is a good ID who is on the ball that will be great.

Thank you very much. Will definitely look into this later.

Those that I've checked for short term leases are not cheap though, averaging $7k/mth for 2-3bedrooms and most state no pets.

Yeah after figuring out the number of months we need to renovate, hubby says we must move house, instead of renovating. Stalemate mode now.

3 blades is more common. Maybe it’s more popular? We got those for indoors as most brands have 3 blades.

Personally I like the 5-blade ones and I got a small one for balcony area, weatherproof type. But DH says 5 blades don’t look as nice as 3 blades (his personal opinion, which I disagree lol).

I have 3 KDK ceiling fans at home; 2 are 3 blades and 1 is 5 blades. Am satisfied with them.
