Yup, I will be adjusting mine to S$450 next month too eventhough mine has only been with us for less than 1 year. Have just discussed with DH and he too is agreeable.3Boys wrote: I suppose
What's the diff between $380 and $450? One family lunch in a pizza joint, perhaps. But it means quite a lot to an Indon maid. I don't mind having one less pizza lunch per month to help her along a little. We may grouse about the levies and such, but it cuts both ways, the poor lady doing the housework has her wages depressed for it as well. Just my view only, in no way insinuating that anyone else need agree with this.
No easy answer......
Indonesian maid salary to be increased to $450???

I guess an increase of $70 is not a lot to most of us. But it may mean a lot to lower income families. I had an ex-colleague who told me that if she managed to save up $50 in a particular month, that month is a very good month :!: .
So she never extends her maid's contract for the 2nd term so as to avoid giving any imcrement. She was doing secretary work and her dh was a cab driver, they have 3 kids and a mil to take care of.
So for those of us who can afford to be generous, guess we can count our good fortune that we can bless others.

Huh? But doesn't she know that it is cheaper to give current maid increment than to get new ones without experience and yet give higher salaries... plus all the 9-10 months upfront loan thingy plus the maid agent fee of aroundS$600?markfch wrote:I guess an increase of $70 is not a lot to most of us. That was many years ago, definitely more than 10 years. Maybe conditions were different then. I'm not sure. She also mentioned something like familarity breeds comtempt so she'll rather do with new maids.Happy Mama wrote:Huh? Is there any maid levy or taxes in Hong kong and Taiwan?
I feel that to increase to $450 a month is ok, but how about the current maids huh? gotta increase their salaries or not? After all they are much more experienced then the new ones.
But if the new maid salary is going to be increased to $650 (even for new maids who have only worked in Indon), to be on par with HK's, then I want to ask the maid agencies how is the cost of living in HK and Taiwan... not to mention that maids are already experienced having worked in Singapore for some time.

Ya quite true... A lot of people say they become more daring the moment you renew their 2 years contract.markfch wrote:That was many years ago, definitely more than 10 years.
