I think the situation will be getting worst as maids may getting this opportunity to demand for pay rises or which ever as 机不可失,时不再来. The employer is better to have some backup plan. :(

Goodness! I think that this is ridiculous! Did I interpret it wrongly? Employer threatens to jump due to stress of looking after her own kids and elderly mother! I think that the employer must be under a lot of stress!!!

This might not be related to this news article ... but I think that some of us are just too reliant on maids. Sometimes, the maid becomes the "mommy". I know of some employers that treat their maids like VIPs, because they rely on the maids to look after the kid 24/7. Even food for the kid and maid is delivered to them! When the maid returns for home leave, the kid won't eat / sleep / etc, and then the employer begs the maid to come back. Oh my gosh, why have kids in the first place if they won't look after their own kids?

Just my 2 cents.

1. gov't edict

2. status symbol

3. grandparent pressure, no kids no inheritance (this is serious)

(please don't flame me, just guessing)
