Would you pay a maid S$25 000/mth for her devotion to you?

With most families being dual-income-with-kids, outsourcing home cleaning and home economics to domestic helpers is almost a way of life for Singaporeans. Come in and discuss issues pertaining to maids and home management.

Would you pay a maid S$25 000/mth for her devotion to you?

I believe many employers would say no just by reading the subject heading.

But wait. Don't we employers always demand high standards from our maids, no? Just by reading the posts here and elsewhere definitely confirms this as dissatisfied employers keep on changing their maids at the slightest mistakes (mind you even those non-life threatening type, not involviing large amount of cah/valuables type etc) they make, no?

Below is real case in S'pore whereby a maid devoted her 20 yrs of service to the employer and her elderly. Upon her employer's death she inherited cash & a luxury apartment worth S$6 million dollars which works out to be S$25 000 per month of her devoted service.

Now, for employers who have maid(s) with that length of service or intends to extend your maid's service by keeping her because of her good performance would you do likewise.......I mean reward her S$6 million dollars upon her 20 yrs of devoted service?

If you think this case is an exception rather than the norm then what kind of reward would you, as the employer, be willing to give to your maid who will be reaching her 20 yrs of devoted service soon (presuming).

Now, will my employer pay me $25,000 per month for my devoted service to the company, assuming I stay 20 years with the same company? Not to mention I helped the company earn $xxx and save $yyy......I guess not........

20 years service will maybe get me a watch???

So, you're no better than that maid, huh? The implication here is that you, the employee, should not stay with your company for so long, right? And, if you're the maid employer, then don't employ a maid for 20 yrs knowing that in the end you may only reward her with a watch....I believe not even a solid gold watch, right?

:yikes:

how much you think your employer will be willing to pay you after completing 20 years of long service ?

that will be the answer to the question

as for the $6million question, if the employer have had someone closer, the maid probably wouldn't get a cent, okay may be a copy watch, gold one ?!

Me? No way. I'm a jumper! Because I knew long time back it's not worthwhile staying with a boss for 20 yrs.

As for employers who have maid working faithfully and devotely for them for 10, 15 or even 20 yrs etc that length of service type please reward yor maid handsomely upon their completion of service otherwise why keep them for so long, right?

If the helper has worked for me loyally for 20 years and treated me like her own mother, AND I have no one else to give my assets to, why not? I cant being all my material goods with me, can I?

People already can donate copious amounts of money to charity, what more of
Someone who has taken good care of
Them for so many years, perhaps unconditionally and more?

Obviously the oddity of the situation is that the employer has got $6 million to dispose of, and has no one else closer to dispose of it to.

So it is an exceptional circumstance, which has no bearing on whether one would 'pay a maid $25,000/mth' for devoted service, as the answer for the vast majority of us would be no. Not because we do not value commitment, which appears to be the point of your question, but rather, that few of us will have the means, or we will have priorities ahead of the maid, including kin and friends who may have been MORE committed than the maid.

Please do not insult me by saying I am no better than that maid (I believe in my self worth and you, not knowing me, are in no position to make such remark!). I am just not BETTER OFF than her becos I am not so lucky to have an employer who leaves me such inheritance. I believe you and a lot of many many others are not in her lucky situation either!

Watch your language as poor language command / usage convey wrong meaning and is offensive!!!
