I have my Indon, who has been with me for 3months now, and an experienced one, I have taught her to do cooking but still unable to follow anything,as a result, she does housework and i do cooking lunch & dinner, look after kids. At times, I do feel like eating indon food, but she says she doesnt know how to cook Indon food.and for Chinese food, only simple boiled stuff.

I get up at 6 am , make sure my older boy has his breakfast, he goes to school ,i sleep again for an hour, and get up to prepare lunch, feed my other son, send to lobby to take bus, then sit and do my own office work, then prepare dinner, teach kids when they come back, pack their bag,,sighh..what a life...

I am not able to entrust my maid with chores like checking their bags or wallets for $. just today, before she took the kids down to swimming, i had given her a HP and told her if the kids misbehave to call me,and I will come down. Well my older boy went to the deep pool, and she didnt call me.My younger one told me when they came back, and I asked why she didnt call me.she just gave a blank stare.

This maid is not getting her salary for 7 months, as the agency has been paid upfront.Whenever she is free, she is mostly in the kitchen, I dont know doing what, she likes to do housework, wipe here and there. But doesnt make an effort to play with the kids. All day ,there is this same look on her face, she looks at us, as though we owe her $$. sometimes, I do ask her if she isnt well or tired, she just says " nothing la ".

should i change maid and find someone who can cook ? I need someone who can cook and manage the housework so that I can focus on other things.

Please advise

Cooking takes up lots of time.
So if you expect your maid to cook, then she will have to learn to cook.

What I did when my maid just came was to write out all the instructions step by step in Bahasa indonesia (i used kataku- online indonesian dic to help me), and I would watch her prepare and cook for the first few times to ensure a standard of hygiene is followed. Then when she has picked up the skill of cooking, I would leave her to cook on her own, but making random checks.
If your maid can't perform and don't even want to try to learn to cook, then you may have to consider an alternative.

As for not wanting to play with your kids, that is not a problem as I think it is better for the kids not to get attached to the maid, especially if you are working from home and can get to watch over the kids.
As for the swimming part, I'd rather supervise the kids myself.

Sounds like she's not keen to learn. Did you specify to her what her main duties are before you hired her?

Agree, from what you've describe you need an experienced maid. Someone who has worked in Singapore before and hence can at least handle some simple cooking. Experienced maid will also be able to understand English better.
