How about maid's laptop?

With most families being dual-income-with-kids, outsourcing home cleaning and home economics to domestic helpers is almost a way of life for Singaporeans. Come in and discuss issues pertaining to maids and home management.

How about maid's laptop?

Postby ANGEL2011 » Thu Aug 23, 2012 11:58 am

My helper asked me if she can own a laptop, I said no, but she still bought it and even asked me if she can use my wireless account! Now every afternoon she stays in her room use her laptop and pretending she is ironing. How do I do? I warned her many times to control herself, but seems no use.
She is with me for more than one year. I am scared if change a new maid even worse than her.

This is not acceptable. I don't mind my maid having a laptop, but she can only use it with her own internet access and only after she completes her work which is around 8PM. If she don't listen, it's time for you to start looking for another maid.

This is 'insubordination'. It's time you send her off otherwise dunno what kind of pattern will come out next time when she sees that you can't do much to her although you have specifically told her no to a laptop. She has obviously 'climb over yr head'.

My maid asked for advance salary and I gave it to her without asking reason thinking her family back home needs the money. But she came back from off day and bought a mini laptop. I told her it is ok to use as long as she finishes work but she took for granted. She started using so frequently and addicted to facebook with thousands f friends. I fed up and stopped her using my wireless. I asked her to keep her laptop but she already 'addicted' to Facebook so now she uses phone face booking. Sigh! Should have stop her using laptop before h gets 'hooked' to facbook. Anyway sending her off soon.

Having a laptop is fine and I don't believe you really have the right to stop her from buying one if that's what she wants to do but if she is using it during working hours then, as someone else said, that is insubordination.

I would suggest that you sit her down and tell her that you want to treat her like an adult but she needs to respect the rules and only use the laptop when she isn't working. If she cannot follow the rules then she will have to leave.

I have allowed my maid to have one and to use our wireless network but only in the evenings after the children are in bed and she has completed all her work.

lol good one.

Seriously, she's already so distracted with her smartphone. Laptop is definitely no-no. She'll never get any work done. She asked me to give her the password to my wireless. I refused. So now she pays for it out of her sim card.

How about you try changing your wireless password so she can't use the internet? IMO internet is the most distracting feature. I have no complaints if she just wants to use the laptop to practise typing or something.

I have to let u guys know that my ex-maid accessed porn sites on her smart phone.

I accidentally found out that some social networking sites host porn. That includes Facebook. This particular account has only Filipino subscribers.

Do you think by saying "use only after 8pm" works? I already have to "watch" their phone usage.

My ex-maid didnt even ask me if she can have a laptop. She came back one day with one, saying that her boyfriend gave her. She asked if she can use the wireless at home, i said no. I told her she is not allowed to use computer as her job at my house does not require it. She can bring to her boyfriend's house and use it on Sunday.

Facebook, Twitter, etc are very addictive. We are all humans. Just look at our own children and people around us. Many are addicted to it.

They are free to use on Sundays, i dont care how. If they have an iphone, they want to use, they can use it after 8pm at night. My rule is "Dont ever let me spot them using the phone in the day time". This is not required as part of their JD
