Hi Insider

We had one of the bedroom door knob change last month as the lock was jammed and not responsive even when we try to open using the key.

DH went to buy the door knob from a shop in IMM. I think it is located at the 3rd floor, the only shop that sells door knob from the ordinary to the very fanciful one. The cost of getting them to fix the door knob excluding the cost of material is $50. Since dh wanted to minimize cost (maintenance of old flat is expensive), dh has gotten the seller to explain on how to install the door knob. We tried and manage to install it ourselves. If we fail to do it on our own, we know the cost for installing is $50 and the shop is just a short drive away.

you can try calling NTUC and I think the rate is quite reasonable.

The current one whom I am using charging me $60 to open a door (such as a bedroom door) and if changing regular lock set at $100. Want to know the 'market price'...
The previous locksmith charge me around $40-50 depend on the time range also, change lock will be around $80 including opening the door. I think they are offering extremely resonable rates saw they webby thru internet http://www.singapore24hrsmobilelocksmith.com

You may like to check the website of your Town Council. They have a list of recommended handyman services. I've tried them bedfore (clear wc blockage) and service is good, rates are reasonable.

I do that too. The prices are good and they did not even charge if their presence is just to look and advise. But can't recommend insider on contacting Town Council. She's staying in a condo.

I agree on TC :) They are very good :)

They only charged me $30 to clear a blocked pipe. & when they found out the problem was not inside my unit but on common property, they refunded my $30 & told me they'll bill to TC!

I was charged $70 a couple of years ago when ds locked a bedroom door. I'm not sure if that is considered reasonable. The services include unlocking the door, making extra keys for all the doors, and readjusting the knob of my main door (which was pulled out by the kids). He took quite a long time to unlock the door.

In the process of getting my lock and handle changed now. I understand from the carpenter that the prices range from around a hundred to over two hundred plus, depending on quality and country of origin. Those from Japan and Korea are better. Those from China is about a hundred.

The locksmith did tell me that for solid wood doors, you should use a lock of stronger material ie better, more expensive lock. For doors that are lighter, that is not necessary, but the entire door is also not as strong.

I chit chatted with an elderly locksmith in Bukit Ho Swee and watched him work. He warned me against using Duro padlocks and showed me how he easily unlock them with a simple appliance. I was completely shocked!! :scared:

Anyway, here is his contact :

Wang Ah Kee
Tel. 9686 9885

He does not have a shop but goes everywhere on his motorbike.
