Hi,
I have an indonesian maid with me for the last 10 months to look after my two kids age 5 and 2. When I hired her the agreement was I would take her handphone when I go to work, and return it to her when I am back. I needed his to ensure that she is not distracted by FB/whatsapp. Recently I got to know that she has another phone which she accesses in our absence. Also she has to my knowledge 2 FB profiles, were updates are there during the timings I am away to work.
I have camera installed in the living room and kitchen. Looks like she has been accessing the phone from the bedroom.
At home she is all the time dull, but in FB her profile pics are all very cheerful and happy. Also I am nt happy with the way she is taking care of kids, she is rude at times. Then she says they are nt listening.
Please advise do I retain this maid or send her back. Are all maids more attached to phone..do they cheat employers. Is my expectation unreasonable. Does anyone let their maids have phone in daytime when they have to take care of babies?

It is so exhausting to be in battle mode everyday. It's bad enough we have to be this way at work and then return home to this again.

It is as though, they have a guide book.....'how to lie and cheat employer on having the life we want.....'

Honestly nowadays getting a maid so expensive so looks like employers have to compromise with the maid. like my maid she is very very hardworking, she is on her feet from morning to night yet listening to all my 2 naughty kids whims all the time, but never makes a black face.. yes sometimes she does forget things but i tell myself to let go.. She is in her mid 30s,, and has no HP, i told her that she can communicate with her kids using my house line and i gave her a card.

Nowadays, I believe maids, especially those in Singapore for quite some time, I dun think u be able to let them have no fone. Like recently my fren hire a fillipino maid, she have to have her fone and also off every single sunday.

im looking for a maid , my current maid leaving in april .

My current maid, with me for 4 yrs also has her hp with her 24 hrs a day. The other day I caught her texting while sweeping the floor concurrently and told her not to do it again. But when we are not ard, she again texting when doing housework. Last time when she asked for HP, I already told her cannot use HP while working, only during lunch time and at night. Last time promised ok but now cannot control already. She an 'old bird' so I guess very hard to control.

So I have to close one eye and just take it. But recently her behavior and attitude very bad so I may decide to change but her contract is over. Giving me a lot of headaches and stress....

We don't care any more if our maid uses the HP while cleaning the floor, ironing the clothes etc etc. So long as the work is done properly and she does not bring a guy into our home, why should we care? We don't like it when our bosses micromanage our work. I don't think the maid will be any different. It's only human.

And a maid's work is really very, very boring. A happy maid is a much more productive maid. Keep that in mind too.

Yap me too. As long as she done her work I don't really care liao.

I feel so tired to micro-manages. To me phone is the smallest problem. Most of the maid I know of, ALL have handphone. I feel if we disallow, they will do behind our back. Even worst.

I m flexible. I allowed my maid to use her handphone. The problem is that when she had problem after her calls, she could not do her work as she was so disturbed and upset. Hence it affects her job. Whether to let the maid use or ban her from using it, there is a similar problem.
