I am renewing my maid soon. Kindly advise how you all manage these :
- i intend to give weekly offday. Normally what is the start and end time given?
- do you alow your maid to bring house keys out when they have their offday? If no and if you were to go out, then how do does she return without you around. I am not ok with her bringing house keys
- do you check if she brings your home things out? Like stealing things out to sell?

Hi,

My ex-maid used to leave our house at 10 am after she completed the basic housework and returned by 7 pm. We sent her back when she got pregnant. She having affair with a foreign worker during her off day. My current maid is without off day and we compensate her.

She brought along the house key in case we are not back when she return.

We don't check anything. Just a matter of trust and to ease us mentally.

Generally speaking, in most cases, maids who have off days will change for the worse. My ex-maid whom I just send her home last month was one good example. First 2 years contract, no off day and everything seemed ok ( I said seemed ok was cos I didn't realized that she was stealing my things bit by bit). After renew contract, gave her 1 off day then few months later, asked for another day off. Then started getting lazier, rude and give me more attitude problems. And started lying much more and sneak out of the house some more! Stole my things, even my silverware and my kids' stationery!

Conclusion is, the maids out there will attempt to poison their minds and teach them tricks or loopholes they can do. I dunno why, maybe they are secretly jealous of each other? Like my previous maid, every time aft off day, she will come back and tell me what other maids have or can do lah...like their employers give them their old IPhone, they can go out and come home anytime....that sort of stuff.

maids get brainwashed when they have off days...they don't use their brains and have any sense of loyalty...just listen blindly  they start having attitude problems, comparing their work with their 'friends' and steal.
then they start having BGR problems as well.
this maid i know cooks at home to bring lunch out and then comes home for dinner...sure knows how to sponge on employer.

Haha, exactly the same as my ex-maid! She cooks curry chicken and rice to bring on her picnics with her friends and don't bother to ask me or inform me abt it. Even use my paper plates and cutlery! When I ask her how come my disposable plates and cutlery were all used up when there's no party at my place and she just act blur and say dunno. All the extra paper plates and cutlery I found it in a paper bag hidden in her room. She even wanted to bring the entire bottle of Ribena cordial out for her party but I think she forgotten cos she simply just left it hidden behind the fridge! I found it just 2 weeks before I decided to send her home. Aft seeing that, I knew I made the right decision to send her back.

what i like about the idea of maids going out on off day is knowing how much it costs to buy lunch and dinner as well as taking transport using OWN money.

Problem is, now that they are going off more frequently, they expect employer to supply food for them
Some may just help themselves to the food as shown in someone else's post here.
Some go "Ma'am can I bring ................. My friend is bringing........... I malu if I don't bring something as well."
 Then what do you say?

Ask the maid "Where is your salary?"

"Do I ask my boss for money when I go out with my friends? My boss don't give me food or pocket money to go out with my friends or family. You have to choose, work for money or spend money.

Your friends give you tips how to tell lies, how to try to steal food from the house, how to make boyfriends etc....you think they are helping you? They are helping you to spend money and do shameful things...they have already done all this and hope that you will follow them into corruption.
When you loose your job and go home with no money......MOST MALU, your relatives and kampung know you loose your job and come home with no money.

dont give maid off day better, not even once a month.
once you give them off day, its going to be real headaches, BGR, tempted to ask for more salary to meet their outing expenses, maid and maid conversation will be comparing salary, how many off days, how to fight for highest salary. My previous maid told me her friends told her
to ask for salary $600 and every weekly off if she renew her contract.
(In my heart, I was thinking she can jolly well pack her bag and leave my house). During off days, she will tell me her friend employer organised birthday parties and invited all the maids friends to her house, or her friend's birthday, employer give $$ to let her bring friends to hotel to eat buffet. Hmm, seem like hinting me i should give her a grand bdae party!
Anyway i ask her to pack her bag 2 days before her birthday, that was my birthday gift to her!
I took this Myanmar maid no off day, no marketing. Just stay at home.
I find them better, they are like those olden batch of indonesia maid, listen to you, scare make mistakes. Of course, having a good maid also depend on luck.
