Hi, I have a Indo maid. Hari Raya Puasa is coming soon, we are thinking whether we should buy her a new set of clothes. Any one giving any thing to their maid during Hari Raya Puasa?

hi, i give ang pow.

And in occasional years, she ask for a day-off to go for outing with her friends, i let her.

And in addition, sometimes i will also buy a jar of hari raya cookies for her to eat, or she can share with her friends. Either that, we will bake pineapple tarts at home, and she will share with her friends.

Yes! I know what you mean.
Talk abt spoiling market for herself. The ang pow is a afterall a cash gift. A privilege. Not an entitlement.

Exactly...it's a gift but they view it as a must. And on her birthdays I buy her a gift and a cake to celebrate with her and she comes back from her off days to tell me things like her cousin's employer gave her an old iPhone for her birthday!!!

Seriously ungrateful and asking for too much...she even compares CNY angbaos with her fellow INDONs and come back and tell me her friends her getting more than her! I mean, even my friends and relatives do not do that and who is she to complain about the amount of her angbaos?

Again, this only happened aft she started going on her off days...mixed with other bad maids and learn all their nonsense...hence I really hate giving maids off days. They don't learn to become better or grateful to you for the little things you do for them. Instead they start comparing and complaining.

So sometimes it's not us employers who want to be strict. Other people, like human rights activists or other "holier-than-thou" people, criticize us saying we abuse them by not wanting to give them off days. Give them off days and this is what happens. These people confirm have no maids or haven't Kenna one bad one.

A good maid is like 1 out of a 1000! Very hard to find these days...

I used to let my Indon maid fly back to her kampong every year for Hari Raya, all expenses paid. Her monthly salary was slightly below the market average - but when she compared with friends, she was the only one that could go back every year. So we thought she was happy. .... and then she decided to go back (stories and lies)... found her working in SG again barely a month after that. So they are all very smart one, lah.. and nothing is enough. So, if we wanna be good to someone, remember... this is our choice and our doing - don't do it because we think we could get something good in return - then we won't feel so heartbroken, lar...

When they want to go back, u can be amazed by the stories they tell you! They will not hesitate to curse their mother, father, husband or kids just to cook up some sad story...

My mum's ex-maid told my mum that her husband met with a terrible accident and broke his head and in critical condition so she needed to fly back the very next day to see him for the last time...turns out that she has already separated from her husband and her husband did not meet with any accident. She said that cos she found a new employer during one of the off days and wanted to switch employer! I knew abt all this was cos my ex-maid told me the whole story! She said she was supposed to go back before her (meaning she also planned to tell me some tall story) but my mum's ex-maid beat her to it.

Can u believe how despicable these people can be? They can just curse their loved ones like nobody's business just to get their way.

Why do we aim to be nice and spoil the market?

The maids compare gifts and ang pows.......will always mention we never give them as much as their friend's employer.

Don't we ever learn? They are bold enough to leave home to work overseas, they are not timid.

Don't have to feel sorry for them, they drop us in a heartbeat if things don't go their way, it does not cost them anything to change employers as soon as they set foot in Singapore or pay up their loan.
