Original Title: checking daily part-time maid's rates

hi i m checking to see if there is anyone in spore using part-time maids who come in daily mon to fri say 3hours in the afternoon 3 to 6pm doing general housecleaning, including ironing, laundry and cooking dinner.

this is quite a common arrangement in china. the auntie usually holds the key to the house and hence gotta be someone trustworthy.

anyone currently has this arrangement and how much does it cost? many thanks!

But part-time maids here usually don't do cooking. They do the general house cleaning and ironing.

ya, i know those type who comes in once a week for three to four hours each time. i myself have a parttime maid who comes in once a week. and she only does general housecleaning, and does not cook nor do laundry. so i stil have to finish all these myself.

just wondering y there's no market for such live-out maids here in spore?

foreverj, I like that arrangement, having grown up with such a helper who came in 3x a week! mummy was SAHM with progressive thinking although there were just two of us young ones.

I get the feeling that it's the (relative) space that we have (viz in HK) but it sure beats a live-in helper - with the loss of privacy etc. Plus it'd do our little ones some good to help themselves!

yes! finally found someone who agrees with me that such an arrangement is better! :D

i saw some expat here posting the same requirement on the internet and offering $400 to $480. just not sure whether that person managed to find someone at that price.

cos seriously i think its still good money right? esp if the helper stays in the vicinity. quite good to just pop by, work for 3 hrs and get paid something close to what nannies get paid for a full day's work.

hope someone can share if there's anyone open to such an arrangement. good for most dual-working families with kids too.

Mine is paid by the hour - $10/hr, does general cleaning and ironing, usually take approx 3-4 hours. I am lazy to do spring cleaning so whenever near Chinese New Year period I will also pay her extra to clean windows, cupboards, change curtains etc. Works perfectly well for me. No need to handle full-time maid/helper problem.

hi radiantmum

do u work fulltime? n anyone take care of your kids for u?

i m considering this arrangement as i m very much a single mum on weekdays due to dh's long working hours so he seldom around to help. so if i gg back to full-time work this seems to be the best option.

i m open if any mummies can share how they juggle full-time work, plus a kid in full day cc (but stil need u to cook dinner cos children can't very well eat outside food everyday right?) plus laundry which is done alternate days. i m thinking if i sleep lesser, do laundry n pre-cook some food when dd sleeps, its stil possible la but worried can't "dong" over the long term.

FTWM :D

No maid and put my DS in fulltime cc since he was about 20 mths. P1 logistics issue also sort out with BASC. We are not fussy about food plus I am fortunate to have my MIL.

Actually, pre 2 yr old logistics IS the reason why I do not have #2 though I love kids! GOVERNMENT - hear that !

totally understand. reason for y i also stil got only one  anyway at least u have MIL. seems there's no running away from at least a caregiver like MIL or maid stationed at home.

but for me, i find it maybe a blessing as less relationship issues. sigh, wat to do? either i outsource plus maybe gotta handle relationship issue or i work myself harder.
