Hi

Did your maid request for advance salary/loan from you?

We did advance her salary before when her family has emergency at our own risk as she still need serve her maid's loan. The agent does not encourage us to do so.We told the maid this is an exception that we give her advance salary/loan that time.

Now , the maid asked for advance salary to be given to her because she want to buy things (non emergency). Not comfortable in letting her form a habit of requesting advance salary/loan.

Is it the norm for maid to ask for advance salary/loan from employer?

Anyone has encountered before and how do you handle the issue.

Thank you.

when there is once, there will be subsequent of such requests.
maids try to ask for advance loan/salary to pay off their debts....once they are free, their true colours show.

the maid is clearly taking advantage now. if her request is rejected, she will show her displeasure in other forms.

You have the right to say no. She is testing boundaries and taking advantage of your generosity.

My neighbour gave her ex Filipino maid a 6-month salary in advance after she gave some sob stories. Turned out that after the 2nd month, the maid wanted to quit and deliberately gave my neighbour headache to force my friend to 'let' her go. Eg sloppy work, quarrel with her children, etc.. So think wisely before falling into their trap

Hi

Thanks for sharing.

How do we deal with the poor attitude if we don't grant the maid the advance salary?

Why are you still dealing with that same maid if you are having so many issues with her?

Does she have any redeeming qualities at all? Eg, despite all her nonsense she keeps your house spic and span, clothes beautifully ironed or is wonderful with your kids. If not, get a replacement already.

If because this, the maid gives you headache - needless to say it is time for her to go. She is hired to work for you, an extra pair of hands to help in the household, to give you a breather and spend more time with your kid/at work. Not to hold you ransom, or parasite on you to feed her appetite for whatever she fancies.

My maid no1 - got a one way ticket home, plus a police report from me after she stole from my children's piggy bank. I advanced some money for her to buy a phone card to call home when she first arrived. Thinking that she could asked again, I flatly said no when she requested for advance the second time. That's when she targeted my kids' savings. Beware!

Hi snow,
You gave the maid advance salary once because she claimed there was an emergency at home...that was an exception. Now she has asked again...I think it is time to consider if she is worth keeping.

After my ex maid got her loan then she started to act funny, food taste bad, not really working, wanting to go out when it's not off day...that was at 5month.
Month 7 she asked to transfer and month 8 I deducted last of her loan then off she went.
Unless she has proven worthy, I really think it's a bad idea....

maids are really terrible...give them an inch & they want a yard.
they just don't appreciate when employers makes exceptions.
it's not cheap per month to maintain a maid...yet they give so many problems.

Hi Funz

The maid is good in packing house. My preschooler son get along well with the maid but she not experienced in handling infant. Every month sure got something eg come back from off day still in holiday mood, slack in work quality, need constant reminder eg to off water heater, she is not independent everything gotta teach her after teaching can still do her own way hence need daily guidance and supervision.

It is hard to find a good replacement. Some potential maid I interviewed once heard I got 3 children they don't want the job.
