What do you mean by the waiting game? How does it help?
Waiting game means everyone will wait, and wait, to avoid registering and withdrawing / re-registering on the last day.

How does it help? It depends on which side of the fence / which team you are on.

For <1km, they can wait and wait, especially if they have more than 1 viable choice (or are simply undecided). It's now possible to wait, and aim for the school that gives you the best odds. Given that this group *roughly* knows what the odds are, they can spring a surprise on the last day on those >1km applicants who are hopeful of their chances in a particular school.

It's possible that the odds for >1km will dwindle very rapidly on the last day, depending on how things go. Hence, if you are >1km applying for ANY school, you will have to watch the monitor closely, in case you are caught by a sudden influx of <1km applicants.

Hi Parents,

First time posting here and need some advice. I'm citizen, completed the PV for Holy Innocents PRI SCH. However, based on the stat for 2022, it seem very competitive even its under 2B. May i check if i should continue to apply for the same school for 2C or i should try others school, eg: Punggol Primary or CHIJ of Navity.

Not very keen for CHIJ, reason being my second one is boy and i will end up sending 2 kids with 2 different primary school.

Just apply right? What are the disadvantages of not applying since you have already completed PV?

I think what Nicole wants to ask is : If her kid is not succeed in the balloting under Phase 2B, whether she should try another around balloting at Phase 2C or try to apply for other schools which may have a better chance for success in Phase 2C.

It's a difficult decision. Balloting is even worse at Phase 2C for Holy Innocents. I assume you are <1km from HIPS, because if you are not, you won't even get to ballot in Phase 2B. What's your distance from Punggol Primary? It's Phase 2C history is slightly better than HIPS.

A gentle reminder for International Students :

From MOE
https://www.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-regis ... l-students

International students (IS) can only register for P1 during Phase 3 of the P1 Registration Exercise, after all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents have been allocated a place under the earlier phases.

Prior to Phase 3, ISes must go through a 2-step process:

1. Submit an online indication of interest form, available here from 9am on Tuesday, 30 May 2023 to 4.30pm on Monday, 5 June 2023, otherwise you will not be able to register in Phase 3 of the P1 Registration Exercise.

2. We will notify you via email in October:
Whether your child can be offered a P1 place.
How to register in Phase 3 with the designated school if they are offered a place.

I've put up a quick review of the 2022 P1 Registration here:
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/arti ... istration/

I'm going to base my predictions for 2023 on the 2022 P1 Registration only, as it has reverted back to just Phase 2A instead of Phase 2A(1) and Phase 2A(2). Should come out before the end of the week.

actually - the reverse is also true.

For instance, 21 qualified applicants. (all are SG within 1km)
19 applied.

u and another individual are the 20th and 21st.

Will you:
1) apply as the 20th applicant - pass the decision to the last person to see if he wants to bring everyone into balloting
2) play the waiting game and apply (or not apply depending on the situation at the final hour)

both strategies are good strategies.
But i will play (1) anytime.

Frankly, who gives a shit being the 21st applicant that brings everyone into balloting?
"No hard feelings bro / sis, but that's how the game is being played. Don't play if you have a weak heart."

Trust me... there will be a lot more people who will tell you 21 out of 20 is good odds...
and then 22 out of 20 is good odds....
and 23 out of 20 is good odds...
The next thing you know, it will be 40 out of 20 is good odds.

A lot of < 1km will make the move late in the game.
