Do note that the blog was set up in 2009. Meta classes are only introduced from 2013 onwards.

Up till 2012, nyps picked out the top 10% (those who passed the first round of gep screening) to form HA classes. There was no meta classes then.

Meta classes are made up of children who are in the top 2-5% of the cohort.

You so eng, ah? No need to do spring cleaning?

Meta, or whatever names the schools choose to call, is immaterial. These classes mainly serve to create opportunities for geppers to mingle with mainstreamers (to ensure the geppers won't become elitist?). Rosyth's version is called PEAKS@Rosyth. This one from Rosyth website 2015.

3. INTERMINGLING PROGRAMME

PEAKS@Rosyth - Programme to help pupils Excel through the
Acquisition of Knowledge and Skills

Students who have been identified as high ability learners are invited for PEAKS@Rosyth to take part in enrichment activities with the GEP students. This creates greater opportunities for pupils to interact and have fun learning together.
The following are activities we have conducted under PEAKS:

Mathematics Modules - Special hands-on activities on selected topics
Poetry Workshop - Appreciation and performance of poems confidently to an audience

Some schools just picked from their top classes to form intermingling classes, no fancy names given. Students who are good in Chinese are selected to join Geppers for HCL lessons. (For CL/HCL, geppers still follow the mainstream textbooks.) Subjects for the intermingling classes, like Arts, Music and PE, are not part of GEP but mainstream curriculum. Activities that these intermingling classes engaged are rarely part of the gep curriculum but are more of enrichment nature.

As to why Meta selects only 2-5% of those who passed GEP round 1? Maybe the number of such students in nyps is large enough to form classes? For the sake of curiosity, nyps parents, do you know if these 2-5% students are also mostly from the HA classes in P3?

Edit : In NHPS, the intermingling programme is called Talented & Gifted Programme (TAG). http://www.nanhuapri.moe.edu.sg/cos/o.x ... id=1115090

MGS has similar program, known as Sophia Blackmore Class - "The SBC curriculum is modelled after the Gifted Education Programme (GEP) in consultation with renowned educators in the field of gifted and talented education." (From MGS website). Hence, is happening in many schools, of course the 9 GEP centres have their own 'Meta'/'Tag' kind of program to stretch the high ability students' potential and to let these students mingle with the GEP students.

I think the Sophia Blackmore programme is different from the inter-mingling classes of other schools. SBC is an in-house gifted programme and they have a differentiated programme from the other classes. Whereas the inter-mingling classes in other schools are essentially taught mainstream curricula but join the GEP classes in subjects such as HCL, PE etc?
