Pei Hwa or CHIJ Kellock

Yes, definitely can go into Pei Hwa since your husband is ex-student, if u don't mind the distance. But one thing you have to check with bus association (get tel no. from general office) then check with bus driver whether there is any pick up from your home.

The case I mentioned is real case, this yr registration, not story. Older child P5 this yr. Going to sch is driven by his daddy in the morning. I don't know where they stayed previously (maybe CCK) but heard shifted to Hillview. So perhaps bus driver obliged to see through the old child (despite shift hosue) but not picking younger child from Bukit Timah. I suppose the mother has to check with other bus drivers since I believe they are differentiated by the routes.

Hi Caroline. I dun mean it as a story ..i know u are referring to a real case....

I checked with PH bus drivers and they said alexandra is too far for them, the furthest they go is Holland. So this is another problem for me.

sigh....

I really dunno what to do.
PH- no balloting but distance/ travel problem
CHIJ - near house but may need balloting and chance not getting in

In terms of good schools, I know PH is more popular.

Chief Kiasu,

Can I apply the Super Kiasu Method where register for Phase 2B(2) assuming I had did volunteer work for the 3 schools? (Fairfield, Radin Mas & River Valley)

Maybe would be a better choice to do volunteer & stick to Radin Mas where I have a higher chance since I'm staying at 1.5 Km away from Radin Mas Pri.

What do you think of these 3 schools of their strength?

Fairfield Methodist
River Valley Pri
Radin Mas Pri

Re: Recommendation for good primary schools near Redhill

Hi Chief Kiasu,

My son is going to primary one in 2010 and I need to make a decison on which school he should enroll now just in case i will need to be a PV for the chosen school. Gan Eng Seng is the nearest to my house (within 1 km) but from the comments you made, it seems not advisable. However, I'm not ambitious as well, so I chose Chang De the second nearest (1-2km) from my home. From the past 2 yrs registeration, there was no balloting on 2007 phase 2C and balloting on 2006 phase 2C. So, right now, i am a bit confused whether to go for PV or not. Please advise.

Regards,
yemother

Hi Yemother,

Maybe you can consider Zhang De Pri where at least there should be places in the Phase 2C.

Wish you good luck then

My comments on Gan Eng Seng is based on their PSLE performance only. They have come close but have yet to produce students that graduate with >=275 in PSLE (although they had a few students scoring above 270). We do not know what their overall passing rate is. GES is also very strong in aesthetics, especially in their band. If you stay that close to GES, you should at least drop by to get a feel for it before looking elsewhere.

To play safe, most people just become a PV for the school they are targeting. Past history is not necessary a good indicator.

[Bukit Merah] Feedback on Zhangde primary school?

  • Quote

Post by yuanyuan mama » Tue Jun 17, 2008 4:30 pm

Hello, I am another newbie here. I would like to know how's the feedback of those who sent their children to Zhangde PR school? Is it a new school? I haven't have much information on this school while others recommending Radin Mas alot and if can't get in, CHIJ Kellock will be the second choice. Radin Mas and CHIJ Kellock are within 2 km of my residence but not within walking distance. Zhangde is just across the road.

How do I find out the balloting result of 2007 registration of these school? My gal is falling in 2C phase registration for next year 2009. Am I late to opt for PV if I want to get in these school?

I am not a local and just relocated from overseas last Sept. My local friends said I am a blur blur mother since I haven't taken any action

Pls.....I need help :D

Its not really a new school but they just move to the new permise about 2-3 years ago. Not so sure about their PSLE results. But they were quite consistent in achieving character development awards.

The rule of thumb is to go for the school that you have the highest chance of getting into, and that means:
1. You or your spouse's ex-school
2. The school that is nearest to you

All primary schools offer the same level of education. Every child take the same PSLE. If you are a bit more particular about the quality of the school and its teachers, and are prepared to spend a bit of time doing PV, then you might want to select the nearest school with better track record. Such schools, however, are likely to be more stressful on both your child and yourselves as parents.

There is nothing wrong with Gan Eng Seng and Zhangde. Both are decent neighbourhood schools. And you don't need to do PV to get into these schools.
