The DA-XX and related AA-XX awards are really the lowest-tier recognition that MOE grants on Primary schools for their achievements in academic, sports & asthetics, and character development programmes. Most established schools should already have at least gotten some Development Awards in most areas, so you should raise an eyebrow if a school older than 10 years did not at least have one of these.

The ODA-XX and SAA-XX awards are the next higher level for the equivalent DA and AA awards. This is given to schools who have built core and sustained competencies in specific areas.

The SDA (School Distinction Award) award is a school-level recognition given to schools which generally excel in all areas. It's the equivalent of "1st boy" in class. There's another awards called the SEA (School Excellence Award). It's the highest possible award for schools in Singapore. No Primary School has yet reached this nirvana.

Think should not take too seriously about this award. I mean award is good, it recognizes the hardwork & achievement. But placing over emphasis on this is bad.

I know of a school, the teachers there are good. But bcos the Principal is too pre-occupied with chasing these awards for his/her own promotion, the quality of teaching suffer.

This is because all the Principal's good teachers are concentrated on getting the awrd. More often than not, they got to skip class.

So, in the end, the students suffer. But does the Principal care ? The principal only care about his/her promotion lah ...

So beware ...

So in this year 2009, the following schools have achieved the following awards.

Rulang Primary School (School Excellence Award)

Tao Nan Primary (School Distniction Award)
Rosyth Primary (School Distinction Award)

So normally it would take how lonmg a school from SDA to achieve SEA?

Should also ask how fast the quality of teaching drops when all the HOD & good teachers went missing from class in pursuit of all this paper award ?

All this to help the Principal get promotion ...
