Young Scientist, Nat Geo Kids or Asian Geo Junior Magazine?

Postby quixation » Fri Aug 23, 2013 11:59 am

Hi,

Am considering getting some magazines for my 6 yr old going to p1 nxt year & came down to 2 magazines for kids

1. Young Scientist - Singapore magazine
2. Nat Geographic Kids magazine
3. Asian Geographic Junior magazine

Any parents give any comments on any of the above?
Which one is good or better?

I understand Young Scientist magazine is according to MOE Pri Science Syllabus but DD has been watching Nat Geo and Discovery kids so she has an interest in Animals, Geography and especially how things are made..
I heard Nat Geo Kids only pictures and little facts..
Not sure about Asian Geographic Junior

I want to start with only 1 to see if she likes.
Any comments welcome!
:thankyou:

Young Scientist will have my vote!!

This is my gal favourite mag, tried Young Generation and Nat Geo but she is not into them. Past copies (selling in bundle) are available in popular bookstores.

Tho my gal is in P1 she has conviced me to buy all 3 levels. Know from her that some of her classmates like this magazine too.

Hope this is useful for your selection.

Nat Geo Kids - just a lot of nice pictures. Not worth the money.
My P1 boy LOVES Young Scientist. You should order through school as there is discount.

I recommend National Geographic Kids magazines. Pictures can be used for discussions. Good for developing oral skills.

My kids love Young Scientist.

For Nat Geo Kids,i bot the book series instead of magazine ones.

On top of that, I borrow Science related books fr library. I find the Science books (for e.g. Plants that eats insects, how woods turn into Paper, experiments with magnetism)provide more insights of science topics they r studying.Help them to understand beta.My boy scored full marks in his test this semester

I bought Nat Geo Explorer for my 6 year old. It is for schools and available online or over the app store. There are suggested language arts and science lesson plans to go with it and i personally find them very good (though I don't use them much).
