Ask kid to memorise this sort of structure if he doesn't read enough. By right if you speak or read enough English, you don't need to know the rules.

For this type of structure,
VERB 1 + DIRECT OBJECT + VERB 2

Please check if VERB 1 is a Verb of Perception or Verb of Permission/Causation. If it's followed by a direct object, you MUST use a BARE INFINITIVE in VERB 2 place.

Only VERB 1 takes the Tense or agrees with Subject.

What are Verbs of Perception? see, watch, hear, feel, sense take a direct object and a bare infinitive.

E.g:
I saw it happen
I watched him die

What are Verbs of Permission or Causation? make, bid, let, have.

E.g.:
I made John do it.
I bade Mary do it.
I had him draft the plan.
I let him go.

There's usually 1 MCQ on this sort of structure in PSLE or top school papers.

Anyone has any recommendations on resources or assessments book that provide explanation to all the grammar rules?

Our school uses Hodder's About Grammar. Even this is not exhaustive and there are supplementary materials from for instance online resources.
