b)how many nephews does Mr Tan have?
To give 2 more sweets, he needs 16 (4+12)sweets. Hence, mr Tan has 8 (16/2)nephews.

Mr Tan has 36 sweets [ 8 * 4 + 4]
Can you explain using model examples? I do not understand your workings. Thanks a lot.
Given,
If he gives 6 sweets, he has a shortage of 12 sweets ( so he will need 12 more sweets )
If he gives 4 sweets, he has 4 sweets left ( so he has 4 extra sweets)

To give 2 more sweets( meaning change from giving 4 sweets to 6 sweets to each Nephew), he needs 16 sweets[he has to use the 4 extra sweets left over (from giving only 4 sweets) + 12 more to be able to do so]

Since he needs 16 sweets in order to give each child 2 more sweets, therefore there are (16/2 ) 8 kids.

And given,
He gives 4 sweets to each child, he has 4 sweets left...
8*4 + 4 = 36 sweets.

OR

Given,
He gives 6 sweets, he is short of 12 sweets,
8*6 - 12= 36

I visualise in this way by starting to give each nephew the smaller number of sweets first.
If I give 4 sweets to each nephew, I got 4 sweets left.
Then if I need to give each 6 sweets, I need to give each nephew another 2 more.
I take my 4 sweets left and give to 2 nephew first. Then since I am short of 12 sweets, it means I have another 6 more nephews to give to.
So I got 8 nephews.

Can anyone help me with this question? A big thank you!!

Lisa and Patsy had an equal number of cookies at first. Lisa ate 9 of her cookies
and Patsy bought another 21 cookies. Patsy now has thrice as many cookies as Lisa.

Can anyone help me with this sum? TIA!!!

40 boys had to paint some Easter eggs. One of them fell sick and the rest of the boys
had to paint 3 more Easter eggs each. How many did they have to paint altogether?

is the answer 4680?
the sick boy needed to paint 3x39=117 (39 being the remainder number of boys)
total number of eggs=117x40=4680

not sure if it's correct..

Hi All,

Would appreciate if you can help with the below question:

Sally has $8 more than Sam. If their mother gives them $7 each, they will have $32 altogether. How much does Sally have at first?

Thanks!!!
