Hi,

Can someone help to answer this question with a model?

Jane bought 4 similar tins of paint and 3 similar brushes for $54. Mary paid $106 for 8 similar tins of paint and 5 similar brushes. Find the cost of a tin of such paint.

Thanks.

4T + 3B = 54 => 8T + 6B = 108 ............(1)gem wrote:Hi,

8T + 5B = 106 ...............(2)

(1) - (2)

1B = 2

4T + 3(2) = 54

4T = 54 - 6 = 48

1T = 12

5a = 5 units ...

I'm sure every student touched units and models .

algebra is to remove the need of drawing models .

This is solving by elimination method . Make either 1 the same , so they cancel out each other . Then u left with some value and another unknown .gem wrote:Hi,
