TIA!
This is a very common sum and it is not difficult. The trick is to make the 2 numerators the same.
2/7 = 6/21 of the apples is equal to 3/4= 6/8 of the oranges.

X X X X X X x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x - apples
X X X X X X x x - oranges

therefore (15-2) units =260
13 units =260
1 unit = 20
Apples =21 units =420
Oranges =8 units =160
I think you should just use 21 - 8 = 13u --> 260
(Model is also not necessary)

Either method could be used. You can draw out the model to help your child to visualize the problem.

After,
Women : 3u
Men : 3u

Before,
Women: 5u
Men: 3u + 108

5u + 3u + 108 = 1940

Solve for u, then find 3u+108

Hi all , need help on these 2q.
1) at a florist, 5/8 of the flowers are roses. 2/9 of the remaining flowers are lilies and the rest are tulips. If there are 1408 more roses than tulips at the florist, how many flowers are there at the florist?

2) there were 482 sweets in Box A and 98 sweets in box B at first. After an equal number of sweets were added into each box, there were 4times as many sweets in box A as box B. How many sweets were added into each box?

TIA!

TIA!
From the 2nd sentence, you will notice that the suitable unit for the remaining flowrrs should be divisible by 9 so that 2/9 can also ve a whole unit.
Therefore, from 1st sentence, instead of using 5u out of 8u, use 15u out of 24u for roses. Remaining is 9u out of 24u.
Lilies = 2/9 of 9u = 2u
=> tulips = 7u

Roses - tulips = 15u- 7u=1408...can find value of u and 24u

Since equal numbers of sweets added into both boxes, the difference is the same both before and after adding.

A : u+u+u+u
B: u
482 - 98 = 3u
Find u.
U-98=sweet added into each box.

Hi nebbermind,
I'm still confused abt this part. How u get 15/24? "Therefore, from 1st sentence, instead of using 5u out of 8u, use 15u out of 24u for roses" :sweat:

15/24 is the same as 5/8.
