Mother had 48 more beads than her son at first. After her son threw away 12 beads,
she had four times as many beads as her son. How many beads did mother had at first?

After her son threw away 12 beads,
Mother ------- 4u
Son ------- 1u
At first,
4u - (1u + 12) ------- 48
3u ------- 48 + 12 = 60
1u ------- 60/3 = 20
4u ------- 20 x 4 = 80

Ans : 80 beads.

Total beads -> 7u

Kerry ------- 1u

After Wei gave 65 beads to Kerry :
Wei ------- 1u + 60 - 65 = 1u - 5
Kerry ------- 1u + 65
Kerry had 6 times as much as Wei :
1u + 65 = (1u - 5) x 6 = 6u - 30
5u ------- 95
1u ------- 95/5 = 19
1u + 60 + 1u = 19 + 60 + 19 = 98
Alternatively,
1u - 5 + 1u + 65 = 19 -5 + 19 + 65 = 98

Ans : 98 beads.

Maia had 2064 beads than Jenny. After Maia used 144 beads to make a necklace, she had 5 times as many beads as Jenny.

(a) How many more beads did Maia have than Jenny in the end?
(b) How many beads did Maia have at first?

J -> 1u
M -> 1u + 2064

After M used 144,
J -> 1u
M -> 5u

5u = 1u + 2064 - 144
4u = 1920
1u = ?
