P5 - What time do your kids finish after school ?

Postby shurley197323 » Wed Jan 19, 2011 11:01 am

Almost everyday beside the regular CCA, my kid's class will have to stay back for extra lessons (Math, Science,Chinese, HCL)etc. Sometimes, she can only be back from 7.ooam to 5.30pm on two of the days. Do your kid's school have extra lessons for all the subjects? Although I think it's good to learn more before PSLE but just wonder why it can't be done during school hours. And the worst thing is, the school do not coordinate the timing .If she choose this lesson, she will miss that lesson. :?

My son doesn't take any CCA...since it's not compulsory, I don't force him.

His supplementary lessons just started this Tue...2x a week - Tue and Thur. Other than that, he reaches home at 145pm, showers and have lunch. Starts doing hw at 230pm and then takes a nap at 330pm. Wakes him up to finish up the rest of his hw until 7pm. At about 830pm, he will do some revision.

The supplementary lessons are for all 4 subjects - odd week Maths and Science, even week for Eng and Chinese.

Seem like your kid's school arrange better. For example, my girl can only come back at 5.30pm every Wed & Thur. Free on Tue & Fri.

The only good thing is CCA is not compulsory...how else to do revision every night if he has to attend CCA ? After his supplementary lessons, he reaches at 345pm, take bath and snack. Must sleep and then refuse to get up. Tue and Thur nights are spent on school hw, nothing else  . Time is so precious this year.

Last year dd supplementary class for P5 was on Tuesday and Wednesday. Occasionally there was a short period of 5- 10 workshop for Monday. CCA was conducted during the Friday morning unless there was a special requirement like SYF training or any performance otherwise can still home as per normal on Monday, Thursday and Friday.

OMG, supplementary 3x a week ? I thought 2x a week is already less time spent on revision.

Yes, I also feel heartpain fo my girl. But I make a point to her no matter how late she is back, after doing school homework, she still must spend sometime (30mins-1hr) for extra assessment book since she didnot have many tuitions expt Chinese comp. Really no time to waste, must get really for PSLE if want to enrol under DSA. I am more worried than her. My girl also hated Chinese subject. Do you all know any IP Sec School
that donot emphasise a lot on Chinese? I can only think of NUS High School which is more on Science & Math.

Mine P6 this year and every Mon and Wed, has extended curriculum hours from 2pm till 3.30pm. Normal days timetable is from 7.10am to 1.30pm., except Thurs it's 7.10am to 9.30am. CCA is on Thurs 4.15pm to 5.30pm, so every Thurs the students have to go home at 9.30am and be back by 4.15pm if they are taking CCA (badminton).

Last year in P.5, every Mon was extended till around the same time but after spoken to the Principal, he mentioned it was optional as it was Supplementary lessons.

This year with new Principal, it is part of curriculum hours and not supplementary, so it's compulsory.

Personally don't like it and have spoken to the new Principal but of no use. They rather to have Contact time and have the school dismissed at 9.30am every Thursday, then to do away with the extended hours. Pity those who are staying far away and taking school bus.

My cousin's son wanted to use DSA but didn't do so as his results good enough to enter ACS. But poor chap stayed back 3x a week for track and field. Very heartache thinking if my son had to stay back almost 3-4x a week.
I told him he has to do 30min of assessment book bcos this is the only way to revise...just doing hw is not enough. Since he sleeps in the afternoon, he can sleep later at night.
