Bcos my girl was on GEP 2nd round during P3. So the school selected a few students to attend this program in P4 & P5.( same training like Math Olympic Program)

Firstly on the question on whether W3 cluster is sufficient to prepare them for the competition.....

Frankly I'm not sure...guess it depends on the kid. For my case, my son managed to obtain an Honorable Mention Award for NMOPS in P4. Prior to the competition, we were quite bochap, but after seeing that he has interest and did come back with something from the competition, we decided to sign him up for Maths Hub in mid-August. He has been happily attending the lessons since.

On the W3 and Maths Hub ..... comments from my son is W3 teaches what the school does not cover and is more challenging. Whereas for MH, it covers the school syllabus but more in-depth with short-cuts etc. He enjoys both. However, again teachers play an important role. My son wasn't pleased with last year's W3 teacher.....accordingly, many questions are not fully explained or not at all plus she talked over the phone during lesson time. But this year, he is pretty pleased with the current teacher as she goes through every question and does not talk over the phone (you see, my boy is interested in maths and hence, takes his lesson seriously.....)

As for whether it can help him enroll in the competition, I think it's up to the school to decide. Normally the school will send many and I would believe the HAP will be included. I didn't do anything too....bochap lah...until I received the consent form to let him participate then realised about all these Maths Olympiad stuff ;)

Perhaps we can touch base more often.....which school is your girl from and what's her name? Probably our kids are in the same class.

Cheers.

Hi Mum42,
sorry for the late reply....didn't realised there was a question posed to me.
My DS attends the Sat morning class. I believe the Wed nite is for the specially selected students right? Think this is the REAL competition kids....so your DS must be good in Maths. :)
