Can someone please help with the following question :-

Tom, Alvin and Grace had some buttons in the ratio 7 : 3 : 2. Tom gave Alvin and Grace a total of 54 buttons so that all of them would have the same number of buttons. Find the total number of buttons the three children have.

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.
Hi Jerico,

Let's try:

One possible solution:

...................Tom........Alvin.........Grace

At first:..........7 u.........3 u............2 u

Changes.......(- 3 u)......(+ 1 u).......(+ 2 u)

Finally............4 u.........4 u...........4 u

3 u → 54
1 u →???
12 u → ???

Can you continue from here?

Hope this helps

Cheers

Suggested answer:

If 1 cup = $3, total money Jane has will be:
6 plates + ($3 x 10) + $12
= 6 plates + $42;

or

10 plates + ($3 x 6) - $8
= 10 plates + $10

Therefore,

6 plates + $42 = 10 plates + $10
6 plates + $32 = 10 plates
4 plates = $32
1 plate = $8

a) 1 plates cost $8
b) Total money Jane has will be
(6 x $8) + $42 = $90.

Suggested answer:

Assuming:
Kate has 9 units
Terry has 2 units

After giving 1/3 (9 units x 1/3 = 3 units),
Kate has 6 units (9units - 3 units)
Terry has 5 units (2units + 3 units)
Kate has 1 unit more than Terry.

If 1 unit = 50,
3 units = 150

Hence, Kate has given 150 stickers to Terry
