60% of the students at Keng Academy were boys last year. There were 1200 girls last year. This year, after some new students join, the number of girls increased by 35% while the number of boys increased to 2580. Find the percentage increase in the number of students.

Thank you so much !

:frustrated: :?: Thank you in advance !

Hi Jerico,

One possible method:

There were 1200 girls last year.
There were 1800 boys last year.
There were 3000 students last year.

There are (1200 x 1.35 =) 1620 girls this year.
There are 2580 boys this year.
There are 4200 students this year.

Percentage increase in the number of students
→ [ (4200 - 3000) / 3000 ] x 100% = ???

Can you continue from here?

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Q : The ratio of Stella's money to Finn's money at first is 9 : 25. Stella and Finn shared the cost of a present in the ratio of 1 : 4. Stella used 1/3 of her money to pay for the present. Finn had $221 after paying for the present.
(a) How much did Stella have at first ?
(b) What is the cost of the present ?

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.

Hi Jerico,

Hi Jerico,

Let's hope I interpreted this correctly:

...................Sally.....Kelly.....Lolly

(Finally).........300......300......300

(Before Kelly gave 1/5)
...................300......375......225

(Before Sally gave 1/7)
...................350......325......225

(At first)
...................350......325......225

Are you able to follow the steps?

Hope this helps

Cheers

Hi, Appreciate if someone can help with the following questions :-

(1) The average of 9 numbers is 62. If 1 is added to the first number, 2 is added to second number, 3 is added to third number and so on up to the ninth number, what is the new average ?

(2) Mr Shariff works as a salesperson at Tukki Boutique. He earns a basic salary of $1700. He also earns $3 for every $50 of sales he makes. Last year, the total sales he made was $54000. What was his average monthly earnings ?

Thank you in advance !

Why 50/5?
Given : The total mass of the pillow case and the towel was 2/3 of the total mass of the shawl and the bedsheet.

Pillow case + Towel ---> 2u

Shawl + Bedsheet ---> 3u

Total ---> 5u

Given : The average mass of these items was 12.5 g.

Total : 5u ---> 12.5 x 4 = 50 g

1u ---> 50/5 = 10 g

Hello Jerico,

1) 1 + 2 .... + 9 = 45.
Total for all the 9 numbers is 9 x 62 = 558.
Adding 1 to 1st, 2 to 2nd and so on is equivalent to adding 45 to total. So 45 + 558 = 603.
new average -> 603 / 9 = 67

2) every $50 of sales = earns $3
$54000 of sales = earns (54000/50) x 3 = $3240
$3240 was what he earned for the whole year, so $3240 / 12months = $270 per month.
His average monthly earnings = basic salary + $270 = $1700 + $270 = $1970.

Hope this helps!
