Maybe ask MOE? If you are dropping CL as MT must get MOE's approval first, right? Then you can ask MOE too...

Most kids who drop MT do so because of a learning disability. In that case, they are not usually required to take another language in lieu. This is the first case I've heard of, actually.

The other category of kids who don't take MT are those who have been overseas for more than 2 yrs, but you don't seem to be in that group either. So I'm just curious, was it MOE who asked you to find a language in lieu of MT for your son?

Thanks for your reply.

@slmkhoo -- its his school / form teacher who recommended me to apply for FL.

@ngl2010 -- oh i thought i must have the proof of enrolment or registration together with the application in order for MOE to approve...

jdgm7, I don't know the process. It is better if you call MOE first thing tomorrow morning.

I agree with this. For the other reasons for not taking MT, the application needs to be backed by an educational psychologist's report or proof of overseas residence, and MOE approval is needed. So I would think that MOE approval will also be needed to take a foreign language in lieu.

Friend got her DD exempted from MT and did not have to offer FL in lieu at this stage. But need MOE approval. Doctor report needed to show learning disability.

hi everyone! thanks for all your reply & help.

I just want to update this thread...

I submitted an application to MOE thru my son's school for FL in lieu..we got an approval after few weeks...

now my son is on his 3rd term taking French lesson

:)

Though I am confused why some of his classmate (French Class) only took 1 term, afterwards, they stop already. I don't think they change school or something...
