it's VERY normal for results to drop drastically from P4 to P5...but if your son's math and science standard is still maintained, it is not so bad.

daughter is in p6...it took a while for my daughter to catch up as she is academically weaker...but kids will catch up once they are adjusted. every child is different.

Same for my DS. (Math and Science maintain but languages saw a big drop.) But the drop was in CA1. The school explained that at P5, they start using PSLE format hence it is difficult for kids to cope. Previously the school did not have CA1 but found that the kids (and parents) had a big shock at SA1. So they implemented CA1 and I think that helped both kids and parents to understand the PSLE format better and now results at SA1 have improved.

Not surprising for languages as teachers will be marking more strictly especially for compo and compre.

Don't just look at your child's results, also look at his cohort's performance. Is his marks above median?
Is the paper set at a higher standard?

Well I'm just saying, no hard feelings :) but 1. Look at the highest too, there's a chance only a few did well, and the others did poorly, I believe this was the case for last year's PSLE. Although many did badly so "It is fine", you may need to think about why there are people who can do well - Maybe the topic was confusing so many(including your child) did not understand? You know, those kinds of things. Btw, it is very common to drop, and chances are, it is not gonna go back to when they were in P4(unlike what others have said). Just look at the grade itself, if it is the same, then you PROBABLY do not need to worry as much.

Generally, what is considered a good score in P4 and P5? I assume P5 and P6 should be about the same, should not have drastic change.
My DD is only P4 and her results dropped a lot in SA1 too. The drop in P4 is almost unheard of so I am also very worried.
