Neighborhood school in the north but a popular one. Not GEP.
Happy for your child, it must be a pleasant surprise.

My dd is in a SAP school. Top 10% in cohort and top 3 in class every year. We could not accept it. We requested for review.
Hope you will have a successful outcome.

Do encourage her to keep up her good efforts. There will be chance for school transfer in Sec 2/3. She can also choose her choice schools after O-levels.

All the best.

Advice please. My girl got 13pts. Her choices are as follows:

1. TKGS (13)
2. St Theresa Convent (13)
3. Katong Convent (15)
4. St Joseph Convent (14)
5. Xinmin (14)
6. Holy Innocent (15)

Is that quite safe? She wants TKGS. St Margs was another one she wanted but she didn't make the COP (11)
For 2nd choice onwards, just arrange according to her preference.

Should be fine but if you want to be very safe, have one choice of COP 16.

Hope she gets into TKGS. All the best.

Hi fellow parents,

My DD got AL7 with HCL Distinction. We are SC. May I ask if the choices below are safe:

1. NYGH
2. MGS IP
3. SCGS IP
4. NJC
5. RVHS
6. SNGS (or Nan Hua)

Her preference is to go for independent schools. NJC seems more focused on Maths and Sciences, while my DD is stronger in languages.
SNGS is far away from our home. We live in the West. RVHS is nearest by distance. Appreciate for your kind advice. Thank you.
1. NYGH 7D
2. MGS IP 7
3. SCGS IP 8
4. NJC 7
5. RVHS 9M
6. SNGS (or Nan Hua)

Should be fine. It is highly likely she will get into one of the first 5 choices. Since she prefers Indep school and SNGS is far away, why not consider MGS O-level or SCGS O-level for the 6th choice (or 4th choice unless she prefers IP track)?

All the best.

Referring to the PSLE Indicative Score Range...
If it is 4 - 15, it means the academically strongest students who entered that school got 4 points, and the worst that entered had 15 points.

If you enter with around 15 points, you are one of the weakest in that school. If that 15 points came after a herculean amount of effort in primary school, the next 4 years may not be very pleasant.

And if you don't even meet the COP for the previous year, I don't think you should be risking a no.1 or no.2 choice.

Your PSLE score does not define you though. You can always do better in a Sec school even if you are in the middle of the cohort range.

Just an opinion =)

Would there be any fluctuations in COP due to cohort size? e.g. this year, it is 37K, in 2020 &2021, it was around 39K.
Or the number of students with AL8 or better (top 10%) will be still around 4000, which means, for IP, the COP would remain the same or move up (7 -> 6, 8-> 7)?

All the best! Hope that it's an unfortunate error and that she's done way better instead.

Was the type of swing observed in the other 2 kids (of the top 3)?
