Hi tracywham

Good Afternoon.

520 is a logical answer.

The 60 more boxes in the second scenario come from those boxes with defective packing moving to those boxes which are packed correctly.

Draw a comparison MD and you’ll see 24u ----- 60 + 360 + 60 ----- 480

This gives 1u ----- 20

Hence 26u ----- 520.

Best wishes

I couldn't figure this one out, til I saw your solution... The production number remains the same for the 2nd scenario, i.e. the total is the same 1st and 2nd scenario..

Oh. I get it now. All along I thought the 60 more was additional to packing correctly. Thanks for the explaination.

In an hour, the number of chocolate boxes which had defective packing was 360 less than the number of boxes which were packed correctly.
If 60 more boxes were packed correctly in an hour, the number of boxes that are packed correctly would be 25 times the number of boxes with defective packing.
What is the total number of chocolate boxes packed in 1 hour?
Hi tracywham,

You posted the exact same question in the P4 Math Q&A thread
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum ... 9#p1469349

Please refrain from doing so as it will be confusing to parents
why a simple/difficult question is appearing in the thread.

Hi tracywham

Good Afternoon.

You're welcome.

Draw the comparison MD; you’ll be able to see it quite clearly.

For every increase in the number of correctly packed boxes, there will be a corresponding decrease in the number of defective packed boxes.

Best wishes

Tom's allowance is $15 more than Jack's allowance each week. Each of them spends $12 perweek and saves the rest. When Tom saves $161, Jack saves $56. How much is Tom's weekly allowance?

"Tom's allowance is $15 more than Jack's allowance each week"
means Tom saves $15 more than Jack each week.

Difference in savings: $161 - 56 = $105

$15 more in 1 week.
$105 more in 105/15 = 7 weeks

In 7 weeks, Tom saved $161.
Each week, he saved 161/7 = $23

So Tom's weekly allowance is $23 + 12 = $35
