After S paid,
S:M:R -> 3:8:9

After R paid,
S:M:R -> 5:4:1 or 10:8:2

After M paid,
S:M:R -> 10:1:9

S -> 10u
M -> 8u
R -> 9u
Meal -> 10u - 3u = 7u

S had $40 more than M,
10u - 8u = 40
2u = 40
1u = 20

Cost of meal -> 7u = $140

Lemon cupcakes = 10u
Choc cupcakes = 10u + 185

Why select 10u? Coz 10 is LCM of 2 and 5, i.e. can be divive by 2 and 5 (1/2 or 1/5).

After sales,
Lemon = 5u , {1/2 of 10u}
Choc = 4u + 74 , {2/5 of (10u + 185)

5u + 4u + 74 = 146
9u + 74 = 146
9u = 72
u = 8

At first total cupcakes = 10u + 10u + 185 = 20u + 185 = 345
Number of cupcakes sold = 345 - 146 = 199

Please help me solve this problem.

The number of children in a town decreased to 8827, while the number of adults increased by 42% to 15194. The total number of people decreased by 259.

Q1. What is the increase in number of adults?
Q2. What is the percentage decrease in the total number of children?

Q1.

100 + 42 = 142

142% ------- 15194

1% ------- 15194/142 = 107

100% ------- 107 x 100 =10700

15194 - 10700 = 4494

Q2.

4494 + 259 = 4753 (decrease in the number of children)

4753 + 8827 = 13580 (total number of children at first)

(4755/13580) x 100% = 35%

Ans : Q1. 4494; Q2. 35%.
