### Re: Q&A - PSLE Math

(a) In 1.5 hrs, M/C is 90km from AEC72 wrote:Please help with this question. Thank you.

At 8.30 a.m., a motorcycle left Town A for Town B travelling at 60 km/h. 1.5 hours later, a car left Town A travelling at 85 km/h. The car overtook the motorcycle midway between Town A and Town B, and reached Town B first.

(a) Find the distance covered by the motorcycle when the car left Town A.

(b) What was the distance between Town A and Town B?

(b) Car is 25km/h faster than M/C. To catch up (90km headstart), Car needs 90/25 hrs.

Car needs 2*(90/25) hrs to complete journey.

Dist from A to B is 2*(90/25)*85 km

### Re: Q&A - PSLE Math

Arafin does 12.5km more per hr => 4 hrs he did 50km more.EC72 wrote:Please help with this question. Thank you.

Khamed and Arafin started cycling from the same place but in the opposite directions. After 4 hours, they were 174 km apart. Khamed's average cycling speed was 12.5 km/h slower than Arafin. What was Arafin's average cycling speed?

Arafin did total [(174-50)/2 + 50] km

Arafin ave speed = [(174-50)/2+50]/4 km/hr

### Re: Q&A - PSLE Math

Need some guide in speed question.

Q1. Mr tan took 6 hrs to travel from Town A to Town B.

Mr Lim took 4 hrs to travel from Town B to Town A.

If both of them started travelling at 10am, at what time did they pass each other?

I tried using the ratio below:

Tan: Lim

time: 6 :4

3: 2

speed: 2 : 3

distance:2 :3

based on the above i derived: 2/5 x 3 = 1h 12 min

time-> 11.12am

but if I tried using the below method, i derived another answer.

Tan->1/6 of the distance

lim-> 1/4 of the distance

together-> 5/12 of the distance

1h-> 5/12 of the distance

1/5h -> 1/12 of the distance

therefore 12/5-> 2 2/5h

time 10 am -> 12.24pm.

thus which is correct?
