Hi,

May I know whether every SAP schools require all students to take Higher MT. Do they have the option not to take if cannot cope?

Thanks!

During lower primary HCL is compulsory. But when they reach P4, the school will based on their HCL results to recommend if they should continue HCL. This is still optional. Eg. if the child don't meet the mark but parents can make the decision to let them continue HCL in P5.

But if they don't meet the mark for P5 (in my kids' case, it is at least 70 for normal CL and pass HCL), they can no longer take HCL for P6.

Some SAP schools offer normal Chinese such as Maris Stella, Nan Chiau, Catholic High, Chung Cheng etc. It is not compulsory to take HCL in SAP schools.

HI mummy so kiasu,

Thanks very much for the info. Any idea about Nan Hua? I emailed them a couple of months back but they didn't reply.

is a SAP school recommended for a student who is in HCL but chinese is his/her weakest subject? but isn't it wasted when the child actually takes HCL, goes through all that and they don't go to a SAP school? Please share your opinions.

HCL is conducted at a high standard at SAP schools. Can your child cope or will he be struggling all thru his secondary school years? Ask yourself this, what does your child lose by not being in an SAP school? He can still take HCL at other schools at a level more suited to his ability.
