Science Olympiad is NOt only opened to GEP schools. Just Google for the prize winner for SPSO and it is clear that there are winners from non-GEP schools as well. No doubt there are more winners from GEP schools, but this does not mean competition only open to GEP schools. Just want to provide some balance perspective instead of propagating the impression that GEP schools or GEP kids have it all.
Didn't you see me use the word "usually"?

Did I say only restricted to GEP schools only ? I didn't, right ?

So, why you jump to wrong conclusion yourself ?

The RSO tested on many secondary school topics on chemistry and physics which are quite alien to primary school kids unless they actively read up and absorb on these topics themselves.

Comparatively, would the SPSO be more within what they have learnt in their primary school syllabus?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
I checked with my kid’s school. Last year two who joined RSO were selected for round 2, but none who joined SPSO made it to round 2. With that assumption, I tot SPSO by NUHS would be more difficult? Hahhaa

DS only partipated in SPSO and it was definitely way beyond primary school syllabus. To do well, one would have to read widely on their own. However I don’t think one needs to be fixated on whether topics are in primary school syllabus or not, a student keen in Science would usually have read up as a matter of personal interest and are likely have come across the topics. Even NSW ICAS science papers tend to cover a broad range of topics beyond primary school syllabus.

All finalists would receive a letter and a map with the timetable but no namelist. If your kid gets the letter by now then he/she is in the final. See you all next Monday!
