DIY Mind + intellectual Training Anyone?

Postby mintcc » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:08 am

Just thought we should start a thread to exchange tips / resources/ideas /games on how to do some DIY brain training and at home. After all the $$$ brain training school we sign up for probably use quite a lot of the exsiting materials & know how out there.

Brain training:
1. Flash Cards
2. Memory train (I think Mind champs use a similar method.) Basically to show a series of unrelated pictures and tell a funny story for the kid till they remember the sequence of the images.
3. Photographic memory: Look at a picture for 2 seconds. After that hide away the picture and try to remember where the position of some of the items are.

Activities link with higher IQs
1. Reading
2. Sign Language for young kids
3. Music training/ listening to classical music for young kids

Exposing children to languages
1. Listening to stories in other languages
2. Listening to songs in other languages
3. Flash cards of languages

Better still... why not exchange materials amongst ourselves? These things are NOT cheap.

I make most of the flash card myself, by either printing it or cutting up posters. We can probably share those printable stuff

Great idea... maybe upload whatever you have done for other parents to download and print. Of course, we will have to respect copyrights, if any.

Let's do it as an article on the portal. We should probably open up the section only to registered KiasuParents.com members.

The theory is you flash the card to your kid in super high speed like 0.4 sec per piece, suppose to make your kid use the right brain where it is sub conscious.

It is a frequently used method for learning lah. Even some learning soft ware for adults used that. I guess now kids start young. The theory is that the flash cards help them focus and once you hook them to it... you can teach them lots of stuff with it.

I personally like the fast method cause you can cover many things in a short period. I cannot flash as fast as 0.4 sec but at 1 second per card you can cover 300 items in 5 minutes. :P
