Agree & Disagree Statements in Science - A Teaching Method

Dear Parents,

Here's one method to uncover your child's understanding of Science. In this method, children are asked to analyze a set of "fact or fiction" statements.

In the first part, they may choose to agree or disagree with a statement or identify whether they need more information.

In the second part, they are asked to describe what they can do to investigate the statement.

E.g. For Magnets

Statement -------------------How Can You Find Out

1. All magnets have 2 poles.
___ agree ____ disagree

___ it depends on ____ not sure

My thoughts:
--------------------------------------------------------------

2. All metals are attracted to metals.
___ agree ____ disagree

___ it depends on ____ not sure

My thoughts:
--------------------------------------------------------------

3. Larger magnets are stronger than
smaller magnets.
___ agree ____ disagree

___ it depends on ____ not sure

My thoughts:
-------------------------------------------------------------

4. Magnetism can pass through metals.
___ agree ____ disagree

___ it depends on ____ not sure

My thoughts:
--------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps we can use this forum to collate a series of statements for various topics that all parents can use. Hope it helps!
