BODYWORLD exhibitions coming to Science Center

Postby daisyt » Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:37 am

I saw this on the news that night and now on Sceience Center website. Is this the same one that came to Singapore expo a few years ago (maybe abt 4 years ago). I heard that these displays are real human muscles and parts. Anybody been to this exhibition few years ago ?

I went to the exhibition at Singapore Expo way back in 2003. Very interesting and I found it very good, especially if you are interested to know what in the inside of a human body really looks like. A good eye-opener for kids from P4 onwards when they learn about the different systems in the body, eg circulatory, muscular, skeletal, respiratory, etc. in their science.

I am thinking of going again. Can book advance tickets which are cheaper than the original price. The cost of the tickets also includes the science centre. :D

Yes, this exhibition is really interesting. We intend to the bring our P1 and P2 so that they can see what's inside the body.

I remember vividly of an exhibit of a pregnant lady with the foetus. It's kind of sad actually to imagine what happened to her that she became an exhibit.

It's highly educational.

It's EXTREMELY GOOD! I even bought the books with the pictures of the exhibits and description.

My hb is not into science/bio but he enjoyed the exhibition alot! He was amazed at many things and we had alot of fun identifying the different muscles/bones/organs.

At that time, we were only dating, so we were also very amazed at the exhibit which shows foetues of different gestational periods. From then, we were determined to have our own child young as it's so amazing to watch the development of our own child!

Do expect the entrance fees to be slightly hefty, I recall paying something like $30/pax?

There are usually alot of people around, so it's not scary as in spooky.

But I recalled a part where a man is being sliced vertically into many layers. So when you combine, you can see his face. Or was it my imagination....

When looking at these and especially foetus at different stage, I really can't help but wonder what happened.

An ex-colleague told us that she worked there as a temp during the exhibition and there is some smell.

It's definitely not spooky as it the place was brightly lit, so as to enable you to see practically every inch of the human body. I remember there was even a horse. The atmosphere was kind of clinical. As for smell, uh, I don't recall any smell. Maybe it could be part of the preservative used on the exhibits.

The smell is from the preservatives & chemicals used to get rid of moisture in the exhibition hall. Prevents decay of the exhibits.

I think the exhibition this year is not the same as the one that came in 2003-2004. Heard that each exhibition is different and based on a different theme (like they got one on the Brain, Heart etc) The one that's here will be about human development and the cycle of life. Not sure, but heard there will be specimens from the embryonic stage to old age. Pretty cool yah? I will definitely be going! Oh yah, the advanced ticket prices are soooo cheap! think i'll buy mine online.. hehe :D

Looks like an interesting, eye-opening exhibition. But I find it quite gruesome and macabre. :!: But if the kids are keen, I'll just drag myself there and be brave.
