Postby igmum10 » Sat Jan 23, 2010 9:09 pm

Dear Parents

Any good phonics classes around Bukit Panjang or Bangkit area where I am staying....to recommend? Normally how long does an average kid need to attend Phonics lesson for? At least One year? Any comments to add?

My sis in law stays same area as you, and she just told me today that she sends my niece to Jan & Elly, which is at Bukit Timah Rail (upper BT road).

You may want to try that out.

I understand that each lesson is one hour, and from some of the threads in this forum, Jan & Elly is very phonics focused. Down side is pace can be very slow.

What is the budget that you are looking at? If lower budget, can try the phonics session offered by RC. I know there is one at Petir Rd.

Hv tried Jan & Elly before, price is steep and yes pace is relatively slow. One thing I dislike was they keep changing teachers during my time that I eventually withdraw my child. :?:

Average kid of 5yrs old or 6yrs old with no learning disabilities or
concentration problem... i say 1 to 1.5years. Speeding up the
programme may result in the child reading faster but not
necessary enjoying the process. And there is also the part about
truly embedding concrete foundation in reading skills and really
comprehending what is read, to help advance from Phonics to
Grammar... to Comprehension... to Oral... to..... well, in short
there's more to learning the English Language than just Phonics.

I just enrolled my k1 girl to MMI at ten mile junction. I am not sure if they are good but they used to locate at rail mall but moved to ten mile junction since December last year I think.

The Rail Mall MMI is an enrichment centre.
MMI at Ten Mile is a childcare centre. In
this case dun think it's a move. JMO.

You can check that Rail Mall MMI no longer exist and move to ten mile junction. You must have not gone to Rail Mall for quite a while. I have to go there every weekend because my girl is attending the Chinese enrichment there.

Aiyoh dear... i dun hafta check honestly. Yes, of course i do know..
Rail Mall MMI is no longer there for some time liao.

What i meant was that when i said they didn't 'move' was...
that they discontinued their enrichment centre there (RM)
when they opened and began operating another childcare
in Bedok dear. The one in Ten Mile already started operations
for a long time before the RM outlet closed.... They now focus
on childcare services. Ten Mile includes the enrichment within
their childcare facilities. And besides i do travel to & fro that
area a lot as well since i'm staying round the corners of this
part of the west. .... and i AM from within the education
industry as well, so i am somehow also pretty informed and in still
touch of the goings-on within this industry. No worries. Cheerios.

PS : Unless if a child has begun at Rail Mall outlet and then had to
follow the same teacher to Ten Mile, (when it had to close shop)
....... then yes i agree that is definitely a move. A must to move
if ya dun wanna lose your deposit since both outlets are under
the same management.
