We are in the new world of information. In the old days, we have to factor the time to travel and search for information before we can get educated. That time "allowance" has disappeared, along with the services that support that kind of activity. Learning is therefore accelerated. It is now about who can acquire, process, learn from new information, and apply it quickly and effectively to issues on hand. The one who can learn and adapt the fastest, wins. This applies to every value-adding job, from the ordinary insurance sales agent, the soldier carrying out a mission, the scientist developing a new drug, the lawyer trying to build and win a case, to the CEO trying to create new opportunities. What's not in this list? The receptionists, the factory workers, the admin clerks, traffic wardens, cleaners. Why? Because the latter jobs can all be fully automated by machines, making them redundant in the future.

Still think that PSLE math is too hard?

Its unrealistic n thankful to say, O level syallubus is more manageable. But heard from my DD last nite that O n A level standards are now getting tougher unlike before.

All I can say is Thank God I am not born in this generation.
AGREE.
Life is getting tougher for next few generations.
PSLE or any major exam in Singapore is meant to get the cream of the crop.

tutors prepare the kids for tough exam questions which are not usually taught in school. again, the standard is so different...so how scary it can be if kids do not have tuition, especially at primary level.

Agreed, things taught in school are so basic but exam papers are so tough, we need tuition to cover the gap.
Wonder why school teachers cannot teach the standard like tuition centre??

I thought my daughter's ability to do 'level 3' for her math prob sums was considered wonderful...then hubby told me her school exam standard is beyond that :faint:

If you notice, the school term gets shorter n shorter n teachers have to rush through the syabullus. On top of that, teachers have to multi task, how can they give heart n soul to teaching?????

Present day teaching is no longer the same as in the past.

Present day teaching is no longer the same as current day.
after deducting public holidays, school holidays, psle marking days, sport day and some other events, teaching time is very short. towards term 3, teachers practically zoom through the syllabus.
why aren't our teachers able to do their job as in just TEACH?

Anyways, tuition is made necessary due to our examination system

even the not so rich parents will still send their kids for tuition...which means to say it is not a luxury but a necessity. look at the exam papers. the questions are definitely much harder than what is taught in schools.
