I think MOE use %, and should be about 10%.
The number depend on the student taking the test.
So it may swing between 3K to 4K.
Cheers

Actually, for my dd's year and the year before, percentage making it through to round 2 was only about 6% of cohort. I suspect they've increased the number to 4K this year because they want to be more inclusive. In the last couple of years, they've made some GEP programs available to those who got through to the second round but not GEP, such as the Math camp, Spelling Bee's etc. There are also combined classes with high achieving mainstreamers in some GEP centres.

> I believe those who make it thru' their own effort will do very well in GEP while those who got in thru intensive tuition will likely falter along the way.
Very well said ! My advise is unless your kid is really gifted, don't go for GEP. You don't want your kid to suffer for 3 long years, the pressure is quite huge in GEP classes.

My 2nd boy passed the 1st round but stop at 2nd.
He has enrol into Twinning program offer by the school and learning social study, together with the GEP's.
He is enjoying it and his grade did not suffer much.
I believe, given opportunity and right coaching, most students can perform.
And it all depend on us parent, to lend them the support, when needs arises.

Wonder why?
It's been like that all along.

The percentage is written in the official MOE "unsuccessful" letters given out to the children who've taken the 2nd round of the GEP test. You can keep that letter for posterity. *haha* Put in the child's portfolio to show he/she in the top 10% of cohort or something like that.
