All About Pathlight School

Hello parents

I have started this thread, in the hope of gathering like-minded parents whom I think make up quite a substantial community by now.

For a start, I have an ASD daughter who is 6 years old now, and she will be enrolling into Pathlight School Primary 1 next year. Its going to be a new journey of triumphs and tribulations, and I look forward to it with both excitement and some apprehension.

Do come and share!

Hi,
Thanks, ImMeeMee, for starting this thread...

My son is currently in PL, and will be in P1 Standard next year. So far, I've been very pleased with PL, and feel that it is well suited to his learning needs. My son is very average in his academics, so PL is not totally stress-free. (In fact the amount of holiday work, even in December, is  ) At least, I don't have to worry so much about social aspects, bullying and abuse while he is in PL.

Hope more of you will join this thread!

Can’t believe there wasn’t a thread like this before. Now supporting ImMeeMee since I can’t contribute yet. :rahrah:

My boy will be going to foundation year next year. ArielMermaid, may I ask if the school hours are the same as primary school? Does PL have after school care?

My boy’s school acceptance came very late so now scrambling with logistics, still am so glad he go in so these are minor headaches.

Hi Belachanbabe,
Yes, the school hours are from 7ish to 1. Unfortunately, they do not have after school care. My son is on the school bus and it's been quite reliable.

Hope the above helps.

Thanks for your support, belanchanbabe. :please:

School hours are from 7.50 am to 1pm. BTW, registration is happening today and tomorrow. If you have not received your registration package, you may like to call the school to check.

Parents

We will be fetching our doter at the end of school ourselves, and we are told by school that we have to park our car at the public car parks beside school or opposite school and wait at the lobby when school ends.

Problem is the car park beside school is quite a walking distance, while the car park opposite does not have easy access as the traffic light crossing is quite a distance away, and it would be dangerous to jay walk.

Any ways of getting around this?

I just browsed through the P1 Standard textbooks and workbooks yesterday. Now I am really worried. Stellar handwriting that requires copying of passages, grammar on 'a' and 'an', alphabetical order, comprehension skills, math counting ...

I hope she will be able to cope. Care to share what did the Foundation program go through during the year?

Hi ImMeeMee
I always think that Foundation is like K2. It touches on some of Primary 1 syllabus but not all. The english and math are still quite simple, that's why my son managed to pass.

Not to scare you but P1 Standard is really quite difficult (at least to me, keeping in view my son's abilities). The math exam papers go into 20+ pages.

But don't worry. I'm sure the school has assessed your child to be suitable for P1 Standard, and she will be able to cope and thrive.

Hi all! I'm new in this tread but have been reading the posts from the autism forum

My boy will be attending PL next year but he's in the special program which is a pilot program just launched. My boy is the 1st batch for this program.
While my boy scored above PL's requirement for the non-verbal IQ but he has scored below for the verbal IQ. Guess that's the reason PL is giving these kids like my boy a chance to study in PL. There are only 5 kids in this program. It's a 2 years program...they will proceed to pri 1 after 2 years...but only if they are able to follow the mainstream curriculum.

I'm thankful for this program though my boy will be 2 years behind but it doesnt matter as long as he is giving a place in PL. I believe it will be a good learning environment for him.

I went for the registration today..no books for my boy yet as the teachers are still planning for their curriculum.

Thanks ImMeeMee for starting this tread as we can share our kids' journey
in PL.

I am also curious to know if anybody are in the same program as my boy
:?

Sorry for the long post!

Hi thks so much for this new thread. ..hooray

My boy gg P1 std in PL next yr. Just gone to the registration on mon. Fix his school bus as well. Since we lived quite far , he wil have to wake up real early.

My boy will be in angsana class, anyone same class ? Seems like we r big enough to form a support group already.

I m also worried that he may not be able to catch up. Good idea for us to share tips n strategies in this thread .
