Tampines Simei Tuition : Mr Ng will help

Postby just.learn.lah » Thu Feb 05, 2015 11:30 pm

Hi everyone,

This is Mr Ng. I have been teaching for the past 15 years and have helped many students both in my capacity as a coach (tutor) and as a teacher in school.

Now I am teaching at this location
Tampines Central Community Complex
Blk 866A Tampines St 83. #03-03. Singapore 521866

I coach students in Maths and Science.
From Primary level to Secondary and O Levels.
Primary Maths and Science.
Secondary 1 and 2 - Maths and Science
Secondary 3, 4 and 5 - EMaths, AMaths, Combine Science, Physics and Chemistry.
A Level - Chemistry.

I also have experience in coaching IP students in these subjects area.

As I teach all the students myself, I get to know them personally and able to create a differentiate teaching and learning experience for them.
This is important - so that the students will gain the maximum benefits and translate these into the desired results.

In the posts that follows I will share with you some of the struggles my students faced and how they have overcome them and achieved the desired results.

I will also share some of the study techniques that I have shared with my students and how these methods works.

My blog http://www.learningmindeducation.com contains a lot more interesting reading materials, and so do the facebook page:

Do give me a call at 96327 168 to discuss further.

The Chinese New Year Long weekend holidays are over..

When school reopens on Monday, you will be faced with Common Tests - and lots of them.

Just take these test as a measure of your abilities and how much you have done (or not done) for the past two months since school started. If you have done your regular studies, you should be able to pass or even score well.

However, if you, like most students, were so caught up with other activities other than studying, you will be facing the consequences of your past actions of not doing your part. Take it positively. Use this as a wake up call to take action - to make an extra effort to study.

Cheers!

Different students have different learning styles that are effective to them.

Some of my students are good at capturing the essence of the topics and the essential points. They can string these together to answer the questions well and get good results. These students, I will provide them with the HOTS questions (Higher Order Thinking Skills to stretch their abilities. Perry Kong from Catholic High is an example. He ended up with 9 A1 at his O Level.

And then there is a group that requires more robust teaching and learning methods. These students learn and understand concepts slower. They will have difficulties remembering how to answer certain type of questions correctly.

I have many of these students that I have taught over the years. They cannot follow what were taught in school and hence over time, have been left behind. It took me a while to help them overcome their lack of self confidence and to be positive. In the end, they did achieved a decent enough O level grades to advance them to their next phase of their life.

Brian Koh from BHSS was a student that belonged to this group.
Even until Sec 4 Mid Year, he was still not doing well enough (failing in a number of subjects). His mother and him still have faith in my coaching and teaching. By his preliminary exams, he improved over all and achieved the "Most Improved Student" award. He did well enough in the O Level exams and went on to do Engineering in Poly.

Do give me a call to understand further and discuss how I can help.

Cheers!

I like to share a very good piece of Good news.

JW has been failing her Sec 3 AMaths Class test and Common test last year. She just managed to pass her Mid Year exams. Then she decided to put in some effort.

One day last year after the mid year exam, she came to me and asked for some worksheet on trigonometry - a topic that is one of the more challenging to master. She sat down with the work, and spent the next three hours doing it.

At the end of the year exam in Sec 3 - she was one of the 11 in her class that passed, but just.

This year, she decided that she really needs to work harder as this is her Sec 4 year. She passed most of the class test, some scoring nearly full marks. In the recent Common Test on the topic of Logarithms and Calculus, she managed to score FULL marks (60)! She even managed to beat the top AMaths students.

It just goes to show that working hard at it can turn a lot of situations around.

Well done JW!

Cheers!

Met one student at a hardware shop at Sim Lim.
He was doing an intership there as a Poly intership program.
He is doing EE in Singapore Poly. So far, nothing great.. but wait .. let me tell you his story.

He did badly at his PSLE and was posted to Normal Technical stream (NT)
However, he is different from the rest.. he realized his "mistake" and he worked hard. He managed to "transfer" to Normal Academic (NA) after 1 year. From there he worked harder.

At the N levels, his results were just shy of the Direct Poly Admission (DPA).

So instead of joining his friends in Sec 5 N, he chose to go to ITE. There he did higher NITEC, and obtained a very good GPA 3.8/4. He applied and was admitted to Singapore Poly EE course - Year 2 !

So a boy that did badly at PSLE - goes into NT courses can make it..

So can you...

Well done J

Cheers!

The mid year exam is nearer than you think - although the school terms just started.
Mid year exams are typically in the 6th or 7th week so to give the teachers enough time to mark, go through the papers and enter the results for processing and printing of progress report.

So students, you are left with 6-7 weeks before the exams (as this is week 2 already 30th Mar).

In other words - if you do have some problems that needs to be fixed, I have 6 weeks to help you to get you ready.

Are you ready ?

The exams are really near.
How are your preparations ?

How do you know that your preparations are adequate enough ?

One of the problems students faced in studying for test and exams is they do not know what they do not know.

You have studied - reading the text, notes etc.
But unless and until you are exposed to exam-type of questions, then you will know if you know or do not know the topics that you are studying ?

The last thing that you wanted to do is discover this when you are at the exam room reading the exam question. So prepare early.

I felt encouraged this week.
There is a student in the class in Sec 2 that has been failing maths. Her maths were really very weak, and the topic that we are currently doing - Algebra - is not an easy one.

This week, her friends drag her down to find me. We have about an hour half of coaching with this student and her classmates. She managed to do a number of questions on her own.

What makes me very encouraged is the act of coming by to look for me and ask if they can do some more questions.

This is indeed good. I told her that if she continues with this - she should be doing well in the coming test and mid year exams.

Keep it up Keiza!
