LiteracyPlus has taught more than 160,000 students in over 160 schools nationwide. The LiteracyPlus Enrichment Centre opened on Holland Drive with the mission to nurture creative and confident readers, writers and thinkers who are equipped for the future. It runs programmes that cater to pre-schoolers all the way to secondary students.

Besides its team of experienced and dedicated teachers, LiteracyPlus also prides itself on its engaging and holistic curriculum. Through the use of multimedia, activities and current affairs, LiteracyPlus lessons bring English to life and promote discussion and critical thinking. The curriculum also features quality children’s literature to model good writing and encourage reading.

LiteracyPlus also conducts Maths programmes at its enrichment centre that promise to match the level of excellence achieved by its English programmes. On top of covering the key concepts for each topic, lessons will focus on problem-solving shortcuts and strategies that students can apply in exams, particularly to solve higher-order, non-routine problem sums.

Studies have shown that children who are strong readers at a young age enjoy greater success in life. But what does it take for a child to become an avid and confident reader?

Literacy Begins at Home!
Even before learning to read, a child’s vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structures is built through listening and speaking. Whether through songs, word games or everyday conversation, filling up the repository of word sounds that the child recognises will facilitate learning to read. It is therefore of utmost importance that parents create an environment in which standard English is spoken, not just to the child but also between adults.

Reading Tips for Parents
1. Choose a variety of books. Encourage a varied reading diet which includes both fiction and non-fiction books.
2. Inject humour. Make reading fun by using different voices and hamming it up!
3. Take turns. Take turns with your child reading aloud at bedtime. Children enjoy this special time and learn pronunciation from you!

To build and reinforce your preschooler's reading skills, do check out LiteracyPlus' Reading Essentials Programme for N2 to K2 children. Learn more at www.literacyplus.com.sg

Check out our Parent Testimonial below!

In July 2013, we enrolled Samuel at LiteracyPlus to improve his comprehension and writing skills. In just 3 months, we could see his improvement through his daily work and in his exam score. We also noticed improvement in his vocabulary! We are very happy with his progress.

LiteracyPlus has small class sizes and the teacher is able to give each child personal attention. Samuel always looks forward to lessons at the Centre, and he enjoys Ms Tan's fun and interesting teaching methods. He shared that Ms Tan is patient and nice in class, and she even encourages him to help others and work as a team.

When Samuel was hospitalised, we were surprised and appreciative when Ms Tan called to show her concern. We are very grateful and happy that LiteracyPlus teachers are genuinely interested in their students' studies and welfare.

Language Tip

Is your child losing marks in open-ended comprehension? Read about this common error below!

Ali went to get an umbrella when it started to rain.

Question: Why did Ali get an umbrella?
Pupil's Answer: The reason was because it started to rain.

The above answer is wrong. Treat reason and because as enemies that must not be seen together! Use only one at a time.

Correct answer:
The reason was that it started to rain.
It was because it started to rain.

Words From a Satisfied Customer!

One of the things I greatly appreciate about LiteracyPlus is their cozy and conducive learning environment. My kids love their teachers and enjoy their lessons. The class size is just right and the pace of lessons is perfect for my children. On top of that, LiteracyPlus has great materials and a solid curriculum. I like the worksheet filing and coding system they have in place for students as it makes it easy for my children to organise their work and refer to it. The staff are friendly and helpful and I've always had excellent customer service. I will definitely recommend LiteracyPlus to my friends!

Primary 3 to Primary 6

Focus on Word Problems
Lessons focus on increasing students' proficiency and confidence in tackling word problems, which make up 50% of the total marks in the PSLE Maths paper. This includes exposure to a variety of word problems, ranging from basic questions to higher-order, non-routine sums.

Conceptual Approach
Our curriculum is structured around problem-solving concepts that have been selected through the analysis of past-year PSLE and school exam papers. Students learn to identify problem type and use efficient methods and time-saving shortcuts to solve each problem.

Training Speed and Accuracy
Warm-up questions and speed exercises known as 3 Minutes to Win It help students sharpen essential computational skills. At the same time, they increase speed and accuracy in the completion of Multiple-Choice and Short-Answer questions, found in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
